QZI read your explanation up top of why A is wrong. But have a clarification question. Is A wrong because it uses wrong noun modifier "who would later be...." or is it wrong because it does not maintain the parallelism. Or both?
After removing the modifiers here is how I believe the sentence reads:
12 Angry men was written and edited by two young filmmakers and released in 1957. --> Could you elaborate on parallelism error.
Appreciate it.
Hi,
It should be noticed that in option A "released in 1957" is a Verb-ed phrase, which should modify the closest noun most of the times. As per meaning, it should modify 12 Angry Men. But it quite far from that noun. Also, when we use "and" after a comma, it should be a complete sentence that can stand alone, but released in 1957 is not an "Independent clause"
12 Angry men was written and edited by two young filmmakers and released in 1957In this sentence you have not used comma before "and". Note that you can't change the sentence in this way to make it correct. If you want to remove the modifiers, the sentence should be written like this ;
12 Angry men was written and edited by two young filmmakers, and released in 1957
(You can see this does not make sense)12 Angry men was written and edited by two young filmmakers, and it (12 angry men)was released in 1957
(corrected version)Note that in (D), we have modifiers placed near to the subject they modify. Also, we have a structure :
Released in 1957, 12 Angry Men was written and directed by two young filmmakers,
Reginald Rose, who would later be hailed as the harbinger of social realism in cinema,
and Sidney Lumet.here we have a list : RR, and SL. So it corrects the error.
