(A) provides a clear and concise introduction to the subject matter. It states that there is a substance derived from tartaric acid, which has proven to be a popular food additive in many parts of the world. The phrase "which has proved to be a popular food additive in many parts of the world" provides additional information about the substance's popularity and its application in the food industry.

(B) rearranges the sentence structure but conveys a similar meaning. It states that there is a derivative of tartaric acid, which has proven to be a popular food additive in many parts of the world. The phrase "which has proved to be a popular food additive in many parts of the world" emphasizes the substance's popularity.

(C) is similar to option (B) but places more emphasis on the fact that the substance is a derivative of tartaric acid. The phrase "which has proved to be a popular food additive in many parts of the world" again highlights its popularity.

(D) begins with "Tartaric acid" and follows with a clause stating that a derivative of tartaric acid has proven to be a popular food additive. While grammatically correct, the phrasing is less clear and concise compared to the other options.

(E) is grammatically incorrect as it ends abruptly with the word "that." Additionally, the sentence structure is less effective in conveying the intended meaning.

In summary, option (A) provides the clearest and most coherent introduction to the substance derived from tartaric acid as a popular food additive. It effectively communicates the subject matter and its popularity in the food industry.

(C) A tartaric acid derivative, which has proved to be a popular food additive in many parts of the world,

This option correctly uses "A tartaric acid derivative" to indicate that the substance is derived from tartaric acid. The use of "which" is appropriate here to provide additional information about the derivative.
(C) in my opinion

(A) A substance derived from tartaric acid, which has proved to be a popular food additive in many parts of the world, (Popular food additive is the substance and the tartaric acid itself.)
(B) A derivative, which has proved to be a popular food additive in many parts of the world, of tartaric acid (Tough choice between B and C. However C is more direct and concise.)

(C) A tartaric acid derivative, which has proved to be a popular food additive in many parts of the world, (Correct. The sentence correctly use comma+which to define the derivative and not tartaric acid)
(D) Tartaric acid, a derivative of which has proved to be a popular food additive in many parts of the world, (Same as A)
(E) Tartaric acid has a derivative which has proved to be a popular food additive in many parts of the world, that (that clause is not required here. C is clear and concise)

(A) A substance derived from tartaric acid, which has proved to be a popular food additive in many parts of the world, answer A
(B) A derivative, which has proved to be a popular food additive in many parts of the world, of tartaric acid - better to keep "of tartaric acid" next to "derivative", before the commas, eliminate
(C) A tartaric acid derivative, which has proved to be a popular food additive in many parts of the world, - prefer A for better description, eliminate
(D) Tartaric acid, a derivative of which has proved to be a popular food additive in many parts of the world, - tartaric acid isnt produced as the fermentation byproduct, eliminate.
(E) Tartaric acid has a derivative which has proved to be a popular food additive in many parts of the world, that - prefer A because the commas help separate the independent thoughts, eliminate

A substance derived from tartaric acid, which has proved to be a popular food additive in many parts of the world, is produced as a byproduct of wine fermentation and collected by winemakers to be sold as raw material for the processed food industry.

(A) A substance derived from tartaric acid, which has proved to be a popular food additive in many parts of the world,
Incorrect - The modifier "which has proved to be a popular food additive" suggests that tartaric acid itself has proved to be a popular food additive, rather than its derivative.
(B) A derivative, which has proved to be a popular food additive in many parts of the world, of tartaric acid
- incorrect - A derivative of tartaric acid cannot be produced as a byproduct.
(C) A tartaric acid derivative, which has proved to be a popular food additive in many parts of the world,
incorrect - this option also suggests that a tartaric acid derivative is produced as a byproduct.
(D) Tartaric acid, a derivative of which has proved to be a popular food additive in many parts of the world,
Correct - this option effectively conveys the information without any ambiguity. Relative clause - a derivative of tartaric acid has proved to be a popular - correctly modifies tartaric acid. the main clause - tartaric acid is produced as a byproduct... is correct.
(E) Tartaric acid has a derivative which has proved to be a popular food additive in many parts of the world, that - incorrect - This option has a redundancy with "which" and "that" in the same clause.

Answer: (C)

(A): Unnecessarily wordy ('a substance derived from...')
(B): Strange splitting of the subject ('derivative') and its precursor ("tartaric acid')
(C): Correct. Uses a succinct form of the subject clearly
(D): Subject is incorrect. The derivative is the subject, not tartaric acid itself
(E): Comma splice

If we eliminate "which has proved to be a popular food additive in many parts of the world" in all the answers we have:

(A) A substance derived from tartaric acid...is produced as a byproduct of wine fermentation
(B) A derivative of tartaric acid...is produced as a byproduct of wine fermentation
(C) A tartaric acid derivative...is produced as a byproduct of wine fermentation
(D) Tartaric acid...is produced as a byproduct of wine fermentation
CORRECT
(E) Tartaric acid has a derivative that...is produced as a byproduct of wine fermentation

What is produced as a byproduct of wine fermentation?: Tartaric acid, not the derivate product. So only D makes sense

IMO D

A - too wordy with ‘a susbstance derived’ and clumsy with the insertion of the second clause

B- a derivative and of tartaric acid are split in a funky way

C - this is grammatically correct but changes the meaning to imply only the derivative is formed in winemaking and not tartaric acid as a whole

D - correct grammar keeps everything intact

E - again, changes meaning and is a run on

I will go with option C

C option is correctly using "which" in the sentence. Now if you see in sentence "which" is describing about Tartaric acid that is wrong. If you omit comma to comma, C will be valid only.
