I'm in a similar situation as you (~Q40/V39) and looking to improve to Q47+. From there, a couple points on verbal and I'm right where I'd like to be.

MGMAT has pretty good test breakdowns, so I am going to go through those and see if I can find area of improve (which I surely will). What did you think about the Kaplan tests vs. the MGMAT and GMAT Prep tests?

Overall, I found the MGMAT tests to be easier than Kaplan and GMAT Prep. The Verbal questions were very similar to the actual GMAT but the Quant was easier and not very accurate. The Kaplan tests Quant section was quite similar to the actual GMAT in terms of the styles of questions (more number properties than actual word problems) but that could just be the bulk of questions I got.

Have you had any luck improving your Quant skills?

Yeah, I believe I was at ~Q34 before studying. I've spent the vast majority of my time with quant, so its definitely been a grind. I've primarily been using MGMAT and also have the Sackmann sets. I think going forward I need to spend more time with analysis of incorrect problems and using my error log.

Although it sucks, I suppose I would rather have a low quant score than a low verbal score
