Total sales \(= $14,000\) \(= 10,000 + 4000\)

\(6\)% commission on the amount of total sales up to and including \($10,000\).\(= 6\)% of \($10,000\).

\(r\)% commission on the amount of total sales above \($10,000\). \(= r\)% of \($4000\).

Let \(x\) be the commission received of amount \($4000\).

Commission of \(6\)% \(= \frac{6}{100}* 10,000 = $600\)

Total commission \(= $920\)

\(920 = 600 + x\)

\(x = 900 - 600 = $320\)

\(r\)% of \($4000 =\frac{r}{100} * 4000 = 320\)

\(r = \frac{320 * 100}{4000} = 8\). Answer (D)...

(.06)(10,000) + (r)(4,000) = 920

600 +4,000r = 920

4000r = 320

r = 320/4000

r = 32/400

r = 8/100

r = 8%

Commission on sales upto 10000 = 6% x 10,000 = 600
Total Commission received = 920
Commission received on sales above 10,000 = 320

r = 320/4000 = 8%

920 = 600 + r/100 x 4000

320 = 40r

Why is C incorrect?
