Hello!

Due to the pandemic, I decided to just go for an MBA now with a below average GMAT and try my luck. I have 3.5 years of work experience and graduated from a top 5 US engineering program. I applied to 4 schools: Kellogg, Columbia, Ross, and Yale. So far I have gotten into Ross with a small scholarship and rejected from Columbia. I haven't heard from the other two (but also no interviews, so I am not hoping for much there) I am interested in pursuing a career in Tech post-MBA for a FAANG, but here's the twist: for an office not on the West Coast. I want to be close to my family on the East Coast. I want to get your advice, should I accept my offer at Ross or re-apply in the Fall after re-taking the GMAT and staying at my current Tech job (I just received a promotion so not expecting anything else major to happen there) to the same schools with maybe the addition of 2 other T-15s.

My vote to Ross, it's a good one for tech

It’s a pretty great opportunity. The expectations are that next year is going to be brutal for apps. So I would totally jump on it. .... unless MBA is not the right thing for you.

As someone who goes to CBS - I agree with the above. Ross is a great school and, though our tech placements are great at CBS, I don't know that applying next year is going to be any more favorable for any school. Plus, I don't know that any of the 4 schools you mentioned are a tech powerhouse, per se, but all place reasonably well, so you probably aren't missing out on anything.

Ross has a good tech program, a beautiful building, and a really strong alumni network. Friends that attend or did attend seem to really like it there. If you got money there, and like a small town vibe, I wouldn't look back. Beyond that, for living reasons (why we all get MBAs, right?): If you're craving the city, you could always reapply to CBS. If you want suburbs, Kellogg is in a beautiful building. And New Haven is not my favorite, but it's the only place to get Pepe's pizza...so...

Have fun at Ross.

Thank you so much! This is SO helpful and makes me feel happy and excited going forward to accept. I forgot to mention I have been living in NYC since graduating undergrad, so I guess leaving the city for now works for me (especially seeing that the city isn't the same anymore).

Ross is a tremendous program, imo.

I believe the placement statistics show their career team is really really good at what they do.

I also believe they've got one of the better tech placement resumes ... so if you're looking for something a little non-traditional in Tech, they're a good school to help you get there.
