I wonder how this changes with Covid... internships are kind of iffy now...

Yeah.... there is probably a much smaller drinking/social budget (probably) though reading the news out of Chicago it does not seem to stop Booth or Kellogg students from getting together. Travel budgets are less as well. I would guess you would save at least $10K now with all of the above per year. At the same time, Internships are tricky. Still hearing about people and recruiters being somewhat active and some folks doing internships this past summer but no clue really how things will turn out once it is time for offers, letters, etc. This would mean a good hit to the budget if someone was planning to have 2 months of income and subsidized housing.... though it may equal out with the 10-15K of savings on travel, bars, social life.

I may be too optimistic here though :( I think the COVID impact still has not been fully grasped in terms of the mental fatigue, damage to one's health, bad eating habits, etc, etc.

Any differences this year because of Covid-19?

Good question! From what I hear, In general, it has helped to save $$$
I have heard separate stories with most people saying they saved money on recruiting trips, travel for fun (there is still some of that though), partying (a lot of that secretly and on smaller scale), gym membership fees, etc but not sure the cost was worth it. Several folks have suffered mentally, emotionally, and have gained weight, and missed friends and have no internships :(

Anyone wants to chime in?
Thx.
BB.

Can we also have a post where alums can share the percentage of amount they got funded in terms of Educational loan, rate of interest and repayment period for them?

I understand B-schools give their average ROI but that doesn't give complete idea of students funding their fees in terms of loan vs scholarship vs personal savings/family money.

It will be helpful in calculating the risk and better educated decision making, in my humble opinion.

What about opportunity costs of your salary / compensation given up over the two years. If you make $100K plus a 30K bonus (all-in comp of $130K per year), then that is an additional $260K of "costs" to be added. Granted, you can discount this amount by any internship income / signing bonuses, but isn't opportunity cost (for some people) an even larger factor in the overall cost of an MBA program??

Thanks for bringing this important aspect of MBA costing into the discussion. We didn't include opportunity costs for two reasons: (1) Opportunity costs can differ greatly from person to person as they are based on compensation prior to MBA, country, etc factors. So you can't have a single figure of opportunity cost for a bschool. (2) Primary objective of this initiative is to provide an estimation of expenses that actually incur while studying at a certain business school so that those who are planning to attend that program will have a clear understanding of how much provision is required to make to attend that program. Opportunity cost is something that one should consider when calculating the ROI of MBA but not while raising funds.

Having said that, I fully agree that one should certainly consider opportunity cost while deciding to enroll at a bschool.

My top choice target B School is INSEAD. I’d love to learn about the actual expenses of the Fontainebleau campus.

Update Jan 25, 2019: Expenditure details of Desautels (McGill) added.

Hello GMAT Club,

Taking inspiration from this post, we decided to ascertain similar figures for other schools too and make a comprehensive post detailing MBA expenses incurred at different schools. We reached out to active forum members who are currently studying in different business schools and collected details of the expenses incurred during their stay in business school. In subsequent posts, you will find the data of MBA expenditure at different business schools. We want to show MBA expenses of as many schools as we can in this thread and hence will continue to reach out to students and update this thread with their info as soon as we get it; therefore, don't forget to bookmark this topic to for latest info. We hope this would really be a great help to prospective applicants and recent admits in making financing plan for their MBA studies.

We would like to thank to all current students /alumni who took time out of their busy schedules to provide us these valuable inputs of their MBA expenses.

GMAT Club Team.

Can we expect similar reports for a few of the prominent MBA colleges in the US that are NOT in let's say top 100 rankings?

Hello All,

Not university specific but being an abroad education service provider we can help you with a brief overview of the cost that is involved in doing an MBA abroad for the year 2024.

There are a variety of expenses on an international student’s plate even before leaving for an MBA abroad. MBA fees in foreign countries must include the pre-arrival expenses related to entrance exam registration fees, application fees, visa application fees, airfare, etc. Take a look at some of the estimated pre-arrival expenses that are part of MBA abroad for Indian students fees:

ExpensesCost
IELTS Registration$250-$300
TOEFL Registration$195
GMAT Registration$250
Visa Fee$500 (May vary depending on country)
Likewise, the tuition fee is a crucial expense to consider when applying for an MBA program abroad. To provide an overview of the average tuition fees, here is a table showcasing the costs for some of the top study-abroad destinations:

CountryTuition Fee Per Year
USA$50,000 - $60,000
UK$38,000 - $54,000
Canada$21,000 - $29,000
Australia$26,000 - $39,000
Lastly, the cost of living is an essential expense that international students pursuing an MBA must consider, as it constitutes a significant portion of their total expenses during their study abroad period. It is crucial to account for the cost of housing, transportation, meals, healthcare, and other daily expenses when planning for your MBA journey abroad. The average cost of living for some of the popular study-abroad countries is listed in the table below:

CountryCost of Living Per Month
USA$1,000 - $1,500
UK$980 - $1,420
Canada$700- $900
Australia$720- $980
Now that you have a comprehensive understanding of all the expenses involved, you are well-prepared to embark on your MBA journey at an international destination. If these expenses may seem daunting, there's no need to worry. Taking an education loan to finance your MBA can be a viable solution, and we have you covered. We provide a range of lending options to choose from, ensuring that you can secure an education loan that suits your needs. All you have to do is check your eligibility here.
