I remember this Q.
My expl:

[1]Although he is short, he plays Basketball.

[2]Although he is very tall, he plays Basketball.

In 2 there is no contrast to highlight , so conjunctions like but/although are not
correct.

He is very tall so he plays Basketball.
He is very tall,and he plays Basketball.
