Hi BiswajitMahapatra,

Thank you for letting me know about your profile. You have an excellent GMAT score. In terms of work experience, your 5 years of experience must provide examples of leadership, impact, and innovation. I would advise you to dig further and provide examples of instances when you have stepped up to take on leadership positions. This will demonstrate leadership qualities in your application.

Answering your questions:

1. Will MBA be sufficient to change my current career path or any additional certification or work experience will be needed? I only have 5.5 years of work experience in the production sector and no other specific skill sets. Considering that I have work experience in Production and maintenance field in a central PSU, What are the different possible career profiles that an MBA from abroad can help me achieve?

Becoming a career switcher and even changing industries is common, but considering an MBA for career shift demands serious thinking, a broad perspective, and thoughtful analysis. You have significant work experience; however, you will need to make a strong, convincing argument for your career change and why it is essential. You might wish to read an article on a career switch; it will discuss some tips on how a career switcher might justify his/her switch as an MBA aspirant while still stand out in the crowd. You should also concentrate on your post-MBA goals. What do you intend to do after completing your MBA? You may look at our school pages here; which provide detailed information on top b-schools.

2. My preference is to join 12-15 months full time MBA from abroad by Sep 2022 or March 2023. What is the time required for the complete application process? Can I expect a scholarship from an elite B-School?

To assess your chances, we would need additional information about your profile. In addition, international experience is vital for schools such as Insead and LBS. As a result, you will need to focus your efforts on creating an outstanding application and making a compelling case for an MBA.

On the surface, you have a good profile. You might be interested in reading an article about top MBA programs in Europe you will get information on various schools in Europe. If you’d like, we are happy to get on a call with you sometime this week to discuss your profile in length and further chances to the schools. Feel free to book a free session with us at your convenience.

Hello,
I got a GMAT score of 730 (Q-51 V-38 IR-7 AWA-4.5) . I am a 29 yr male engineering graduate(Year 2016 from IIT(BHU),Varanasi). I have 5 years & 5 months experience as an executive in a central PSU company (Coal India). My present job is of Production and maintenance nature.
I am planning to pursue a full time MBA in some of the good B-Schools in USA or in Europe (such as LBS, INSEAD etc.) or in Singapore (NUS). But I don't have much idea regarding business schools abroad and the courses and opportunities offered by them. Below are some of my queries.

1. Will MBA be sufficient to change my current career path or any additional certification or work experience will be needed? I only have 5.5 years work experience in the production sector and no other specific skill sets.

Any help in this matter will be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hello BiswajitMahapatra,

Thanks for writing in.

Please find our responses to your queries below:

1. Yes, the MBA is what you need. Eventually, of course, it depends on what you make of the program.

2. This would require a deeper discussion and will depend on your exact profile. We could look at Operations and Supply Chain profiles.

3. Shorter duration programs are not very scholarship friendly. A lot depends on your profile. With regard to the timeline, you must get started at the earliest. :-)

Good luck!
