spanned two continents over nearly fifty years = well, from what I know, spanned = extended/cover
his career extended/cover two continents over nearly fifty years?
how is it even logical to say so???

Split is between Career of / Bob Lutz / Bob Lutz's Career.
Bob Lutz cant be right, as beginning modifier must modify the subject. So A and E are out.

A)Bob Lutz saw his career as one of the automotive industry's true visionaries span nearly fifty years, two continents, four separate automakers, and responsibility for countless industry innovations - The beginning modifier must modify the subject of the sentence which should be career of Bob or Bob's Career.

B)the career of Bob Lutz, one of the automotive industry's true visionaries, has spanned nearly fifty years, two continents, four separate automakers, and countless industry innovations - His career is already over. Has is used if it still on.

C)Bob Lutz's career as one of the automotive industry's true visionaries has spanned four separate automakers, two continents, and responsibility for countless industry innovations over nearly fifty years - Bob Lutz's cant be referring to pronoun HE in non-underlined part.

D)the career of Bob Lutz, one of the automotive industry's true visionaries, spanned two continents over nearly fifty years, during which time Lutz was responsible for countless industry innovations at four separate automakers. - Correct.

E)Bob Lutz has seen his career as one of the automotive industry's true visionaries span nearly fifty years, two continents, four separate automakers, and countless industry innovations that he was responsible for - The beginning modifier must modify the subject of the sentence which should be career of Bob or Bob's Career.

This SC is more of meaning based than grammar-rule based.
By the presence of modifiers "Beginning in 1963 with General Motors and lasting until the end of a second stint with General Motors" we can easily identify that its the career and not the person. So A and E gone.
In B, the meaning sucks. A career cannot span the industry innovations.
In C, the meaning really sucks. A career cannot span the responsibility of the industry innovations.
So D

Option D it is ... The modifier needs to modify the career. Hence only B,C,& D are in contention. B & C are out because of of the usage of "has used". Instead of present perfect use simple past. Hence option D.

Beginning and lasting refer to the career of Lutz, so we are rest with B,C,D
Now ga s spanned can not be inline with helped(verb non underlined portion),bkz carrer has ended in GM after filing bankruptcy.so how can someone whose career can end and still he (has spanned) in many countries or automaker companies with out his position.so verb tense error.

thirdly their is a parallelism issue too.span is not parallel with responsibility.

so D is only left.aslo meaning point of view it is giving clear cut idea of intended meaning,bkz in many options the prepositions are missing,leading to meaning clarity issues.

What a question, difficult choice between B and D, but D wins due to correct usage of words, style and diction. 750 level imo, took me 1.5 mins.
