Hello fellow 'hanging by a thread' people :)

I received an acceptance call late last week. Not sure what specifically led to an admit conversion but hope the following helps those still waiting.

Have been on the Waitlist since R1 and provided the following four updates in the entire 6 month waiting period (in addition to the emails requesting confirmation to stay on the Waitlist):

1) Completed a quantitative course and worked up to scoring 100% in all the sub-sections (I come from a non-quant background)
2) Submitted an additional recommendation that highlighted aspects of my personality that would make me a good fit for Haas (written by a former supervisor with a top US MBA and corporate experience; the initial recommendations were from supervisors who had other academic/ professional backgrounds)
3) Submitted an update with achievements/ growth on the professional front in the last 8-9 months, including being offered substantial new responsibilities/ new role
4) Spoke to additional students to re-affirm the feasibility of my goals and briefly mentioned this in the update note

With 2 dings (Yale and Kellogg) and 2 waitlists (Ross and Tuck), the MBA application process really has been a black box for me. It ends with me going to my top choice!

I'm from an over-represented pool (Indian) and even though I had stopped expecting a call, I did not stop working towards strengthening my profile (didn't really have anything to lose). Don't concede defeat till the absolute end. :gl

Congratulations Prawn! I'm happy to see some movement in the queue, and also happy to see that you got into your top choice!

As a non-traditional candidate without blue chip experience, I share your perception of admissions as a "black box." As you can see from my profile, I didn't exactly succeed in my efforts to get into B-School, but similar to you I provided Haas with another letter of rec, reached out to current students, and sent an update letter with info on a recent promotion & increased responsibilities. Unfortunately my GMAT score and GPA don't really leave any room for academic improvement, so if not coincidence my dings either have to do with my goals or my non-traditional work experience as an Actuary. I'm still hopeful that I effectively conveyed the value I have to offer and that Haas will extend me an invite, but if they don't I'll ask them for feedback since it seems like maybe I missed something...

Anyways, best of luck to you at Haas, and I hope to see you there! :-D

Hang in there! It truly is a grilling process and the ambiguity is a massive test of patience. I really hope that the magical click happens and you get the call. Hope to see you there! :D
