Side question,

Anyone who got invited used the optional essay instead of ppt?

I have the same question. .somehow I feel that I would miss out since I submitted an essay instead of the ppt

Posted from my mobile device

certainly not if it's an awesome essay

Here's to hoping they're not releasing information purely at a FIFO rate. I've seen two people who submitted after me get invites. So - doesn't really bode well for me if they are, in fact, following an order.

Did your recommenders submit with you as well?

I submitted the day after my recommenders - on 10/2 around lunch time.

@mustang, I know it says it will be random, but in another article they specifically mention that they handle them in a FIFO queue.

Yes, but that mention of FIFO was in 2011. Who's to say they're still doing it that way this year?

In the end, all we can do is speculate

I submitted an essay instead of a PowerPoint and received an interview invite. I really regretted the decision to opt for an essay because I didn't realize it was such a big deal. It seems like there is still hope for those who submitted an essay!

It's different to handle FIFO and deliver the results FIFO

Ok, yes, I know. Fair enough. In the end, we don't really know.

I tried asking the two friends again about their ding from Chicago - no response. Sorry I could not be more of a help!

I guess everyone will know tomorrow. Fingers cross for everyone. Keep on going no matter what!

Appreciate it haha. At least tonight is Halloween, so I won't be thinking about it as much.

Either way I expect 50% of Gmatclubbers to be invited to interview. So at least like to see that invited to interview figure to 100 (conservative). As opposed to 16, plenty of spots to go around guys!

Don't be phased!
I don't think a large percentage of people on this site mark that they were/are "invited to interview." Last year, on this site, 18 out of 231 Round 1 applicants marked that they were "invited to interview" (7.79%) (despite 124 of those 231 later marking that they "interviewed"). So far this year, 18 out of 324 Round 1 applicants have marked that they've been "invited to interview" (5.55%).

If we're in the mood to use these small sample sizes to make irrational guesses, approximately 71.25% (5.55%/7.79%) of Round 1 interview invitations have been extended so far. That would represent a fairly equal distribution over five days. Hopefully there will be a significant number of Round 1 invitations extended tomorrow and/or Friday...

I agree that using small samples to make assumptions is largely pointless, but the temptation to do so by those who are still waiting (myself included) is understandable. To the immediate point cited above, are we sure that the majority of people didn't indicate that they were "invited to interview" and later updated their status to "interviewed"? If so, that would flip the conclusion on its head.

All this is cold comfort to me at this point, just saying that both the above theories are equally debatable.
I hope you're right, amigo. I think you may actually be...for as active as this forum is, those numbers are far too low for "invited to interview" which does suggest that when someone marks "interviewed," it removes their earlier "invited to interview" entry.

If that's the case, 61.47% (142/231) of Booth Round 1 applicants on this site were "invited to interview" or " interviewed" last cycle. So far, only 10% (33/330) of Round 1 applicants this year have been "invited to interview" or "interviewed." If that's the case, there could be a huge number of invites tomorrow for people using this site (170ish?). I really hope that's the case. Good luck, all!

Interview Options

As you know, this week we are releasing interview invitations from Monday, Oct. 28 - Friday, Nov. 1. For those of you invited to interview, you will have five options to complete the interview. We know that meeting members of the Chicago Booth community is important to you, and your interviewers are extremely excited to get to know you, and share with you their #WhyBooth.

Interview options are:

Chicago, Nov. 6-23: At the Harper Center, you’ll have the opportunity to visit a live class, as well as hang out with our current students over lunch. Second year students conduct admissions interviews on campus. If you’ve never been to Chicago, it’s a great time to explore Booth and our great city! Envision yourself as a student while taking a tour of our building, and imagine where the next two years at Booth could potentially have in store for you. Discover our great city and its people, and experience the fit that is so incredibly unique to Chicago Booth.

London, Saturday, Nov. 16: Our London campus is the perfect backdrop to another amazing city in which Chicago Booth has a strong presence. We will have two Admissions team members there to help host you, but it will be the alumni who live and work in London who will conduct your interviews. Stay awhile and mingle over a fun lunch, or stick around all day if your schedule allows - you’ll definitely walk away feeling more informed about the alumni community in the UK.

Shanghai, Saturday, Nov. 23: A 2002 alumnus and partner at Bain and Company will welcome applicants and alumni to Bain offices in Shanghai. Join staff and alumni for lunch before or after you complete your admissions interview. If you are from cities across China and Asia, we hope you will join us in Shanghai.

Sao Paulo, Saturday, Nov. 23: Ever wonder what a TV production studio is like? A 2002 Chicago Booth alumnus opens the doors to ContentE for applicants and alumni. Don’t worry, you won’t be on TV, but you will have a fun day full of exciting conversation, and great food! Staff from Full Time Admissions will be available to answer any questions you may have.

Your City, Nov. 4 - 23: Lastly, we understand that you may not have the flexibility to travel to one of the cities listed above. Booth offers the opportunity to interview in your local area with a member of the Chicago Booth alumni community. Our team will connect you with an alumnus/a close by and you will then communicate with each other to determine the best time and local location to meet. Please keep in mind that you are also welcome to interview outside of your residential city if you are located somewhere else for a consulting project, on vacation, or business trip for example.

No matter where you interview or with whom, you are not at an advantage or disadvantage in the admissions process. What does give you an advantage for your own personal benefit, is determining if you’d find value in visiting one of our larger interview locations to be better immersed within the Chicago community.

Staff, students and alumni look forward to meeting you soon. Don’t forget – be yourself, and keep it real.

Stay tuned next week for more interviewing tips!

Best of Luck,
Danielle
