Hey! Recent INSEAD grad here, not sure where the 23J/23D groups are but just wanted to warn incoming students in Fonty not to live at the Buddha House. If there’s anyone that’s in the admit group, could you please DM me and I can share a warning you can post in your group(s)?
Posted from my mobile deviceActually, here’s something you can share with the group, from 21Js:
I signed a lease at the Buddha House after an unidentified https://gmatclub.com/chat account had been lurking in our 21J group, speaking very highly of the house. After living there for ten months, I recommend that prospective residents steer clear of this house. There are much better shared houses in Fontainebleau that will charge a fraction of the rent as Buddha House and will save you a very big headache. Here is a summary of issues experienced while living at the house:
- The landlord, who lives next door, wrote in the lease that tenants are not allowed to provide negative reviews about the house on social media, and threatened to track down former residents and contact their future employers if they wrote negative reviews
- The landlord has entered the house and peoples’ rooms unannounced on a regular basis, including interrupting a private gathering, a psychological services counseling session, and multiple group meetings
- The house is very old and filthy and in complete disrepair; the landlord nickels and dimes the tenants for silly things so as to keep the entire security deposit
- The landlord charged an exorbitant amount for things that would have otherwise been deemed normal wear and tear, leaving residents with less than 10% of security deposit returned
- The landlord refuses to answer multiple former resident inquiries to discuss the charges; the landlord takes advantage of students and causes them serious psychological distress and anxiety throughout their professional studies
- On three different occasions within a 10-month period, the school was contacted by 6 different residents who raised complaints about the house and the landlord
- The landlord enters tenants private bedrooms without permission and takes pictures of their things; this has happened on multiple occasions, causing causing some tenants to break the lease and leave early
- The landlord forced tenants to provide weekly PCR test results during the COVID lockdown; the tenants had to complain to the school and ask the administration to intervene
- Most notably, the landlord has a tendency to call tenants repeatedly and send long, annoying and senseless text messages (examples below)
Steer clear of this place at all costs.
