Totally with you. Assuming post-MBA if one can land a role paying around $180K base and a $35K bonus, after ~35% tax in a big city and ~$50K living costs, the math is still pretty tight. Even so, one would manage to save close to $45K after everything. With a $240K loan at 14% interest, it would take about six to seven years to clear. I’ve gone conservative here and haven’t factored in promotions or comp bumps along the way — which means landing in IB, MBB, or a big tech role with RSUs could shift that payoff timeline much faster.

So all things considered big tech MBB or IB justify large debt else if one can get scholarships from lower ranked schools then that is a good hedge. Without much debt eventually everyone lands a role just took a lot longer and was more hectic

Agreed... maybe a few years back I would’ve taken a shot, but now I wouldn’t want to go down the Consulting or IB path. They’re great careers, but also brutally demanding — and from what I’ve seen with friends in those tracks, they can really suck the life out of you. If possible, I’d actually prefer real estate over consulting or IB — it feels more tangible and gives me a better shot at balancing work and family, even if it means a slightly longer payoff timeline. And honestly, coming from the startup world, most of the consultants VCs have introduced me to never really made much sense to me.
