Also, one more question please. Over the years, Duke must have had folks who accept the EA binding admit, pay the deposit, but still go to other schools, right? The folks don’t lose anything else apart from a hefty deposit, right?
It is an ethical issue more than anything else.

Hey one more question.. can we withdraw application any time? say someone puts in an ED application and interview is done.. only remaining thing is the final decision.. so before the final decision arrives, can one withdraw an application?

What I have understood till now is that they will take it in bad light because EA is targeted towards applicants who will consider dropping all schools for an admit at Duke. If you are not already in that mindset, it is best to avoid ED rounds. It is not about the money really.

I believe you can withdraw any time you want. Not sure though. Only seems logical.

Technically you’ll apply in EA only if that’s your reach school or if you really really want to go there. Be it any school.

The only logical reason to not go there would be monetary reason.

So if in ED they dont give much scholarship money, can one just call it quits?

It shouldn’t be just like that. It’s just unethical. Remember that you are signing digitally on the application to accept the t&c.

For people applying to R1, please post your questions here. Now we have a few people who have gone through the application submission process in EA. Maybe we can learn from their mistakes and not repeat them when applying to R1. Cheers!

Did anyone receive any interview calls for EA (post submission and not open interview)? Are the calls for interviews also on rolling basis? or do all the calls come on a designated date?

I haven’t received any call as of now. Probably because my recommenders finished submitting yesterday.

All interview calls shall be rolled out on 20th September. If you are on the waitlist for Open interview, and there are cancellations, you might receive a mail earlier than the rest. I’m myself hoping the waitlist moves. I don’t know how it got full so early!
