Folks,
how did you help your recommenders come up with 3 weaknesses (6 weaknesses in total) without destroying
your candidacy??
My rec is asking me to give them some sort of an idea. We all know we can't BS. But what are some of the examples?
That's a very interesting question.
I know for sure that one of my recommendation says: "I can hone my leadership skills and pay some
more attention to detail".
But the final ratings are mostly in the top 10-20%tile bracket. I did manage to get an invite from Ross though.
Coming back to your point: I think schools are smart and experienced enough to understand that the recommendations are more a reflection of how smart the recommenders themselves are to write the pertinent details and exclude the unnecessary ones. I guess unless someone says that you lack maturity or you are not committed to the assigned work or that your communication skills are weak, rest all 'weak points' from recommender's are to be taken in the context of the overall application.
But don't be too smart to project yourself as someone who does not really has any weakness - he is so diligent that he finishes the work assigned to his/her teammates as well. Above weakness disguised as a strong point can highlight that you are the brains behind the recommendations.
Frankly I think all of us have weaknesses. If all of the applicants are superstar then they really don't need to come to the schools. Ask your recommenders about what you can improve on and make sure that they write that in your recommendation letters.
