Congrats to all who got invites today. Now its time to prepare and make sure you ace the interview! They are specific and can be very tough, so ensure you know your application inside and out. Be sure you can identify your own weak spots as your interviewer will likely be identifying them for you and asking questions.

Yes, the majority of the invites went out today but they send out invites other days for a reason. Every year I also work with applicants who get invited at the end. It does happen, and the fact that you were a Thursday invite vs a Tuesday invite will be irrelevant soon. If you don't end up getting an invite, take the time to re-evaluate your story and try to see what didn't work out for you this time. More to come on that later, but for now there is still hope. Good luck!

Was too busy at work to realize I didn't get an invite until just now. I applied R2 last year and got an interview before ultimately being dinged, so here's to hoping on the 8th or 14th.

Amen to that. I have a 760 GMAT and am a US URM (hispanic) from a poor background and a "public ivy." Lower GPA because I went crazy taking engineering-level math courses. Don't know how many of us high GMAT URMs there are out there but I promise you that we'd likely fit into a small room. I remember SWAT teams running around my neighborhood all the time when I was a kid. Wrote about it in my essay. If that doesn't catch their attention as adversity, nothing will.

Damn, should have written about my adversity. I went with describing my experience in case study form. Why would they have that video there if you are not supposed to use it somehow? Anyway. 8 more days of waiting to hear if it was successful.

Any successful invites want to share their essay topics? :D

I also kind of wrote about adversity - though I am not in the underrepresented minority group. I wrote about a personal adversity I struggled with as it related to what I eventually chose as my career.

Do you guys think the adversity story is over-represented at this point?

Depends. I actually wrote only a few lines about my adversity. My essay, I would say, was a very broad brush of my life. Like a buffet of information but I thought it tied together well.

I described how a personal event has impacted my perspective and how this perspective informs how I approach problems at work, in my community, and (hypothetically) at HBS.

Got my invite at 12:09. I have a pretty normal background. Public school undergraduate, master in accounting and have been working in public accounting for four years (currently in my fifth year). Decent GPA and GMAT. No fancy extracurriculars but the activities reflect a consistent interest and passion. I wrote my essay as if I was talking to the class. Very conversational. Did not really talk about why HBS but I did briefly mention the case method (without using the exact words) and how I would be able to contribute.

Good luck everybody!
