It was a stress interview.
None of the questions like Introduce yourself, Why MBA, why MBA now, why IIM A, what work you do in office, what is a typical workday like, how you handled a situation/ tough boss/ difficult coworker or any other stupid person, were asked. They asked very deep questions about work I do. Lots of cross questioning.

Thanks for the debrief. I hope you get through. In general, I feel that IIMA AdCom is pushing candidates on a path of introspection, more in line with BSchools like Oxford Saiid in the UK and Stanford GSB in the US. Did you have an extempore?

I got a stress Interview. No why iim what why mba kinds of questions. They literally pinpointed stuff from my application and my essays and asked very specific questions on the topics. I felt like one of the professors was of the same background as I was because his questions were very technical and he seemed to know what he was talking about. We were on the same page.

The other prof was very dismissive and confrontational. He was trying to derail me from the topics. Starting from the extempore he was trying to prove that whatever I was saying was wrong in very forceful ways. He went on to say that I did not understand the extempore topic then literally went on to explain what I said 1 min back.
Then for my job, he was trying to underplay the roles I played and impact I made and kept cutting me off between my points.

I would say it was a very fun interview. I am a general management guy in operations role so my life is filled with such confrontations. IDK if the interview was deliberately suited to my profile, if it was, then that was one fine move by iima.

Hi @suyash06, as such the chances of getting selected in either rounds-it is equal. As long as you match what IIMA seems to be looking at, you could get selected in either round. DM if you need any help during the process

Purely based on historical statistics, R2 admit rate is better than R3. Having said that, if you’ll be ready only by R3, then the comparison between the two rounds won’t help. Give it your best shot in R3.

Thanks for sharing your experience, Abhijit1122 and jm2k5. What were your extempore topics? Also, Abhijit, could you please share how your panel responded to your arguments in the extempore?
