Interesting profile overall, mayank180. While there is no magic score, aiming for a 665 - 675+ in the GMAT would be good.

Also make sure to have a robust narrative covering your experiences, career goals and how the MBA/ IIM fits in.

All the best!

Hi,

I am looking for some good back up programs to apply in India other than ISB. Could you please evaluate my profile for IIMA PGPx.

Academics -
10th - 10 CGPA
12th - 95.8%
B.tech in mechanical engineering from tier 1 college - 9.17 CGPA

GMAT FE - 695

Work ex - 4 YOE
3 YOE as associate and associate consultant at a boutique consulting firn working as a healthcare consultant
Completing one year at a pharmaceutical company working in business operations and data analysis

I have had good leadership roles and created a lot of impact. Have received a few awards as well
I do not have any international exposure as such

I have some ECs as well such as I have been led a robotics club in college
A rewards and recognition team in my first job and the cultural team in my current job

The major issue is my work ex will be 4.5 years only by the time I apply. I know I am eligible to apply but I have seen average work ex as 7-8 years for this program. Will it be fruitful for me to apply?

Hi mayank180 although a little late to pitch in my ideas but hope it helps nevertheless.

I am frankly super impressed with your career growth progression. It is the single most important thing alongside your clarity around your goals that is valued by the IIM A admissions panel. The international experience is a definite plus. If you have already researched about IIM A PGPX admissions process I hope you know that the interview is the most rigorous part of the applications process as it is conducted by the esteemed professors and has an extempore component that is more or less treated as a debate discussion between the panel and the applicant. I work with a number of IIM A aspirants each year and I highly recommend that you refer to my post here

Should you want professional guidance on cracking the IIM A admit feel free to reach out.

Musk.can_ hope this finds you well

4 years of work experience is a bit tricky if you are going for the PGPX, because the average work experience is 7-8 years (I was told by a professor). But I have had success with some mentees who had between 4 and 5 years of experience. So as long as you demonstrate your maturity and ability to contribute meaningfully to a program where most of your peers have more years of experience, you can make a compelling case. You have scored well on the GMAT and your academic record is convincing. Now you should focus on your professional projects and identify problem areas that perhaps motivate you to steer your career in a certain direction. B-schools love to hear you take a critical look at your industry and its problems. I would say to any B-schools you apply to, refrain from a generalist approach and instead present an interesting niche and application areas in the industry to convince the adcoms. I would be happy to discuss more over a detailed call.

Best wishes

Hi, I would like to be frank and say that the odds do not look that good because you are borderline eligible for IIM A and coming from a very, very crowded pool. If I am missing something, you could let me know about your career growth progression within TCS and what incremental/leadership responsibilities you have been awarded as a result of your performance. Is there a chance you could make a lateral move to one of your clients, and perhaps that could show as a takeoff point in your career? What are your goals? I highly suggest that you add more schools as you become eligible in the subsequent years, like IIM B, C (more IT-friendly) and L.
