I know that. I was not shortlisted for interview that’s why I’m shocked and surprised.. I understand that my GMAT score is lower than Average of GMAT score for IIMB but I had other X factors in my profile..

They rejected without mentioning any reasons

The GMAT by itself wouldn’t have been the sole reason. They also take into account quality of your work-ex, past acads, and certainly your SOP helps understand why you’re thinking of MBA at this point. If they feel that you past and future goal can’t be reasonably aligned by MBA, you have a good reason there too.

There are male applicants who have made it with 660-680 GMAT. An avg is just that - a mathematical average. A higher score doesn’t hurt obviously. But the same application with 750 might’ve had the same outcome.

Hi kuldeepkrlhd

While it's undoubtedly disheartening to receive a rejection from IIM-B, it doesn't come as a surprise given their emphasis on GMAT scores. There's some leniency in GMAT requirements for those from non-traditional academic backgrounds, and I'm unsure if that applies to you. If you have an engineering background, this rejection might not be unexpected.

Your impressive 9 years of experience certainly provides an advantage, but unfortunately, it may not fully compensate for GMAT scores.

On a more positive note, I see a promising opportunity for you at IIM-C. We had a candidate with a similar background (9 years of experience at PNB) who successfully secured admission and will be graduating this year.

Wishing you all the best in your endeavors!

No. 590 is too low a score and getting even an interview shortlist might be difficult. For context, the lowest score in the 2023 batch is 620.
However, if you feel your work-ex is solid and you can’t spend time improving your GMAT score, you could still apply to R3. Best case scenario, you get an interview invite and first-hand interview experience.
Worst case scenario, you spend time preparing your SOP. This can give you good practice for next year. So considering the time you have and if you want to spend money for the application fee, you should make a decision.

PS: There’s still some time to R3. Give maybe another attempt and try to reach 650ish. 590 to 650ish isn’t really that tough. All the best!

Hello 197369,

Thanks for writing in.

No, you should not apply with a 590 on the GMAT; that is a very low score. There is still some time before the R3 deadline and you should try your best to ensure you are able to improve your score.

All the best!
