2) Have strong answers for why you need an MBA (Avoid generic gyaan that many others have repeated before you)

What was the word limit for WAT?

what was the topic?

My topic was: The UN predicts that India will have about a billion people in the middle class by 2050. Discuss the domestic and global economic aspects of this prediction.

what points did you make? and how did they react?

Some key points on WAT for IIM B Interviews:

The topics are not too difficult and they are usually focused on current topics. The college would want to view your ability to think logically and write structured content and viewpoints.
Some key points to remember are:
1) Think before you start writing
2) Give your opinions clearly
3) Think logically and view the problem from all angles
4) Write coherent and comprehensive viewpoints
5) Do not overcomplicate whatever you write

Some Topics from last few years:
1) What is your opinion on farmer's bills that were recently passed?
2) Because of Covid-19, the economy and GDP have slumped, what can be done to revive and mitigate the situation?
3) Online/Digital learning, it's future and challenges

You wouldn’t get any reactions on the WAT. You just write your essay and hand it over.

In WAT, they are merely interested in the logic you present. Having in-depth knowledge of a topic is always helpful, but not a must-have. Most topics would be such as someone without any specialized knowledge would be able to have an independent opinion. As these are opinion-based topics, there’s no absolute right/wrong answer either. It’s good as long as your write-up makes sense.

only IIM B has WAT right as part of their admission process? is there any format in which we have to write/submit?

how may months payslips do we need to submit at the time of application/admissions and also after placements in the new company MBA grads join? Is it last 3 months or last 6 months payslips/bank statements?

IIM Lucknow as well. There’s no set format. Just write it like you’d write English essays in school: Intro, 2-3 short para, conclude.

You may want to take a stand on some topics or present a more nuanced view. Entirely your wish, depending on what you truly feel about a topic.

Also don’t take the WAT too seriously. As long as you’ve not been living on the Sentinel Is for past decade, you’d do well there. Had you not been good enough at writing, your SOP wouldn’t have been short-listed.

That being said, had I been on the panel, I might have compared the language used in WAT against SOP to check who had outsourced their applications. Maybe some panels actually do that?

Why bother about it as long as you have the slips? These things differ slightly campus to campus. 3mo should be good for most IMO.
