Gun99
Hi I would love if someone could please give a feedback on my profile -
27 yr Indian Male with a workex of 4 years.
Background & Academics:
Demographics: Indian Male, Engineer (B.Tech from a Tier-2 institution).
Academics:
10th Grade: 89.6%
12th Grade: 90.8%
Undergrad (B.Tech): 7.73 CGPA Tier-2 College
GMAT Focus: Targeting 715 (currently in prep).
Aptitude: Previously scored 99th percentile in CAT.
Work Experience (~4 Years at a Multinational Organization):
Career Trajectory: Cross-functional and growth-oriented. Transitioned from execution-heavy roles (Supply Chain/Invoicing/Oracle data entry) to a more strategic Finance Support/Transfer Pricing role 1.5 years ago to gain broader business exposure, more responsibilities and better project role.
Key Achievement: Stepped into a high-stakes Transfer Pricing project where the previous resource had failed. Successfully managed a disappointed client, delivered above expectations, and directly contributed to the company renewing the contract.
Recognition: Received the Recognition Award from the VP at year end and a "Top Tier" performance rating from my manager for this year.
Technical/Global Exposure: Build Excel dashboards for complex billings and audit reports. Collaborate daily with Treasury, FP&A, and Tax teams across APAC (Singapore, Korea, China) and EMEA (20+ countries), managing data for 20-25 countries.
One of the biggest drawbacks is I am yet to receive a promotion as I have transitioned between differen projects - from supply chain to pivoting to Transfer Pricing Finance related projects.
Extra-Curriculars / Leadership:
Represented school in Basketball at a competitive level.
Student Council member (12th Grade).
Part of the Sales & Marketing team for the college cultural fest.
Post-MBA Goals:
Pivot into Technology Consulting or Product Management within a global environment.
Hey! I think there are definitely some solid building blocks in the profile, but execution and positioning are going to matter a lot because on paper this still sits in a very competitive bucket.
The positives first:
• strong school academics overall
• clear analytical aptitude given the 99 percentile CAT
• good international exposure across APAC + EMEA stakeholders
• nice example of stepping into a difficult client situation and recovering the relationship
• transition from execution-heavy work into more strategic finance-related responsibilities is directionally positive
That said, there are also a few challenges you’ll need to address honestly.
The biggest one is differentiation. Indian male engineer with ~4 years experience is probably the single most competitive MBA demographic globally, so schools will naturally compare you against candidates with stronger brands, faster progression, promotions, leadership scope, or more developed extracurriculars.
The lack of promotion is not fatal, but it does weaken the profile somewhat unless clearly explained through increasing responsibility and intentional internal transitions.
The GMAT will matter a lot here too. If you actually land a 715 equivalent, that materially changes the competitiveness of the profile. Until then, it’s hard to properly assess where you stand because that score could become either a major strength or a limiting factor.
I also think the goals need tightening. “Technology consulting or product management” is currently too broad and slightly disconnected from the existing experience. Schools will want a much cleaner story around why those paths make sense specifically from your background.
Overall, I think there is definitely potential here, but this is the type of profile where essays, positioning, and narrative become incredibly important because the raw stats/profile alone probably won’t carry the application.
I went through the MBA process myself recently and got into INSEAD plus multiple M7/T15 programs with a 595 GMAT, so I know first-hand how much application strategy matters beyond pure numbers. I’m also an LBS grad and interviewed applicants for LBS. Happy to chat further if helpful mate, feel free to reach out or book a free consultation through the site!
