Hey guys, a current INSEAD 17'D student here, based in Fontainebleau. I have drawn big time from this forum when I was applying, so I would be glad if I can help with any questions / queries. Feel free to ask about student life and all related things.

Hi everyone,

I am sure all of you are anxious, busy and tensed while preparing for INSEAD's MBA application. These MBA applications are a good way to analyse one's strengths and weaknesses. It is a tough yet interesting time for each one of you which one will cherish throughout your lifetime once you reach the destination.

I started my journey on this path 2 years back; in the first year I received 100% rejections from 6 business schools and this year I have received 5 admits including 2 from top 5 business schools, 2 Ivy-leagues with scholarships and 1 from ISB. I was interviewed by 8 business schools this year including Harvard, Stanford, INSEAD and ISB.

I write to encourage all of you to not lose hope and be hopeful in this journey. I will be happy to help anyone who needs help in this process. I can be reached apoorvaj2712 (at) gmail(.)com

I look forward to interacting with interesting people here and getting to know an awesome bunch of you all.

Best wishes to all of you.

Hi everyone,

I'm planning to apply to INSEAD's January intake but had some doubts regarding the strength of my profile. I understand that this might not be the correct place to solicit advice regarding my candidature, but I couldn't find any other thread here that addresses this issue. Would really appreciate if you guys could help me out here. My profile in short:

Academics
Bachelors and Masters from IIT Delhi - India's top ranked engineering institute (GPA 6.43)
GMAT 700

Work ex
2 years as a European Fixed Income trader at India's largest proprietary trading firm
1 year 10 months as a Co-founder of a K-12 education startup that had 100,000 students. Not funded.
1 year 2 months as a Product Manager at a Series C funded ecommerce startup. End-to-end responsibility for setting up operations in China. Gained valuable international exposure by working in China.

Extarcurriculars
Founder and director of a health focussed NGO working with 100 families in India
Captain of hostel football team, leading the team to its first medal in 5 years.

I realise that GPA is the weakest point in my profile. Would the GMAT be also considered weak by the adcom?

My immediate goal is get into a venture capital fund at an Associate level.

Please shed your thoughts on my profile. Thanks!

Hi there! I'm applying for this intake, polishing essays now. Will try to make it for the Round 1 (15th March)

I will also be applying for jan'18 intake.. can u pl share the essay topics with the word limit?

And congratulations for the sep'17 admits...would you mind sharing the video interview experience and also the topics..

Hi nlr3169, sorry for the delayed response. Did you set up an online login? All the questions are there. However I generally recommend that candidates start with developing talking points for their recommenders. Those forms for INSEAD are quite comprehensive, and you will need to strategize as to which stories are best told by you vs. your recommenders.

Takes a lot more time to coordinate your "content" from other sources - so start there.

Also - calling out the fact that INSEAD allows 3 recommenders if you feel the 3rd will add value.

I think your GMAT and GPA both will be problematic.

As for an Indian candidate the averages are usually 20-30 points higher than the averages for the school. For INSEAD the safe target would be 720-730.

There is a lot of time before the admission opens up. Try writing it again.

Other than that you look good - but it is also about selling yourself well. And oh this is the wrong forum - talk to the profile reviewers to get a better input.

Hi any idea on what would be an appropriate word limit for the 'short answer' job description essays?
Any help in this regard should be helpful in framing the answers well.

Hello! I would love to make this thread a bit more active and helpful for all of you.
Wondering if you could share with me - which campuses do you plan to experience at INSEAD?
I found a student-produced video from a student who was at Singy - more social than academic, but it might inspire you to keep going :)
And maybe also some essay content. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WUIE_0oouF8

Hi nlr3169! My apologies - didn't see your question until now.

Job Description/Short Answer

The short answer portion of the INSEAD application will ask specifically about your job description. This section is divided into four mandatory questions and one optional question as follows:

1. Briefly summarise your current (or most recent) job, including the nature of work, major responsibilities, and where relevant, employees under your supervision, size of budget, clients/products and results achieved.
2. What would be your next step in terms of position if you were to remain in the same company?
3. Please give a full description of your career since graduating from university. Describe your career path with the rationale behind your choices.
4. Discuss your short and long term career aspirations with or without an MBA from INSEAD.
5. If you are currently not working or if you plan to leave your current employer more than 2 months before the programme starts, please explain your activities and occupations between leaving your job and the start of the programme. (optional)

Essay Requirements
INSEAD’s essay questions are tailored specifically to better understand your motivation as a professional, as a student, and as a person. MBA programs are looking for well-rounded individuals who will be able to excel not just in one area of life, but multiple. The five essay prompts below – four mandatory and one optional – speak to each of these three aspects of the application.

1. Give a candid description of yourself (who are you as a person), stressing the personal characteristics you feel to be your strengths and weaknesses and the main factors which have influenced your personal development, giving examples when necessary (approximately 500 words).
2. Describe the achievement of which you are most proud and explain why. In addition, describe a situation where you failed. How did these experiences impact your relationships with others? Comment on what you learned (approximately 400 words).
3. Tell us about an experience where you were significantly impacted by cultural diversity, in a positive or negative way (approximately 300 words).
4. Describe all types of extra-professional activities in which you have been or are still involved for a significant amount of time (clubs, sports, music, arts, politics, etc.). How are you enriched by these activities? (approximately 300 words)
5. Is there anything else that was not covered in your application that you would like to share with the Admissions Committee? (approximately 300 words) (optional)
