Just curious many of you have applied for scholarship :)

Anyone applied to the ones other than the diversity scholarships bundle??

Posted from GMAT ToolKit

Hi, I applied to 3 scholarships:
L'oreal
Ryoichi Sasakawa Young Leaders Fellowship Fund
and Indeed Endowed Scholarship

I have no idea about what my chances to get one are...

I think diversity is a merit + need based scholarship. You could have still applied. That said, I read somewhere that you can still negotiate some $ even if you weren't eligile for any scholarship. And I suppose being in round one will definately help, as all the cash will not have been given away yet.

Thanks for sharing that Icecream! Yep, I read the criteria for the diversity ones and need was always in there. I honestly believe I don't meet that criteria and probably I would not feel very well asking for something other people probably need more!

Fingers crossed that I can get to that "negotiation" stage! That would mean good news!

Hi guys,

Quick update from me: completed both my interviews last week.

Interview 1 was an awesome interview, we took an hour than went to get lunch together to continue our conversation. Interviewer stopped short of literally saying he would recommend me but he said my story was very strong and that I had great leadership potential. Some questions I remember:
  • Why INSEAD?
  • Why an MBA?
  • What other schools have you applied to?
  • He asked specifically about my industry experience and how I had progressed in my career (I have a lot of micro-promotions over 5 years)
  • He asked about a time I had failed and how I overcame my struggle
  • What are your weaknesses?

All in all, this was a great 1.5-2 hour conversation. I really enjoyed the experience and we had a very organic conversation, made me very excited to go to INSEAD!

Interview 2 was equally awesome, but in a different way. My interviewer was significantly more senior (SVP at a public company) and appeared to play more of a bad cop role and was less responsive to my answers (didn't show as much emotion). Definitely a more challenging exercise but I believe I did pretty well - he was almost 16 years out of his INSEAD experience and was definitely reminiscing his experience a lot. He also asked some more odd-ball questions that I had a tougher time with:
  • What book are you currently reading (coincidentally I am reading an INSEAD-book right now :-D )
  • What blogs do you read?
  • How does your company help other companies and how could you help mine?
  • How do you learn from your mistakes, what process do you follow?

In addition to these questions there were some of the standard Why INSEAD, Why MBA, Where else are you applying type questions.

Overall, I think my interviews went better than I had expected although I probably could have done better on my second interview. Excited to hear back from INSEAD in 2-3 weeks!!

Hello,

Could you elaborate on the above comment about negotiating on fees? Can you remember where you read/heard it? And was there any further info e.g. how / when, whether this is a formal procedure etc (I assume not, or if it is, it is very poorly advertised!).

I would hope that negotiations can and do occur - regardless of one's profile it seems very difficult to gauge the likelihood of securing scholarship funding! It would be nice to hear that there's another way to bring down the (scarily large) tuition fees.

Thanks.

Hi Schnitzel,
Welcome to the forum!
Can't help much as I don't know more than I just told. Can't remember where I read that, but definately not at GC, maybe poets&quants or beat the gmat. Also the negotiation didnt take place at Insead but at an american school. Its clearly not the formal procedure but I guess it doesnt hurt to try.
Don't hesitate to update your application profile so we can know whats going on with you.

hello everyone!! first time here!! already had both interviews... first was at a café, I was asked why insead, why now, why mba, greatest weakness and quality, significant contributions at work, how I would deal with someone problematic at work, if I was applying somewhere else, etc... second interview was at the interviewer's firm, went through my cv and motivations and same why insead and why mba questions...

YESSS freaking out!! looking at gmatclub and clearadmit everyday although we will probably only start hearing from the admissions office around the 21st from what I read online...

good luck everyone!! :-D :-D :-D :-D
