I was told by previous applicants that is a video essay.... But this year I could not find one, just the 3 essays:
1. Why you?
2. Defining professional moment / Diversity impact?
3. Why ISB and your future plans?

Has the video essay been dropped from the appl process?
Also, they have requested only for a single professional reco, is this normal? Is it possible to provide additional recos? and would this be beneficial?

Yes, as Gyanone mentioned, the Video essay has been dropped from the application process from the last two years.
Infact it was just one year, when ISB implemented the video essay.

This is the first year that ISB has asked for just one letter of recommendation.
You should stick to what has been mentioned in the application instructions. So you should not submit additional recommendation.

Varun,

The video essay has not been part of ISB's admissions process for two years now (this year as well as the last). It had been introduced in 2013 (Co2015 admissions) and was dropped after that year.

Only a single professional reco is part of the ISB PGP admissions process for this year. It is not possible to provide additional recos.

Thanks buddy! Good to know!!!!

Hi Ankur, GyanOne, etc.

It'll be great if you guys could help with my application.

I have a 730 on GMAT (Q49, V40, AWA6, IR 8). I work with knowledge centre of one of the three big consulting firms (BCG, McK, Bain) as an Associate in consulting dept. I have worked on various research and consulting cases off-shore (never directly interacting with client). I'll have a full time experience of 2 years and 9 months if I join ISB next year.

I majored in Business Studies and graduated from Delhi University with 80%. I had >80% in 10th and 12th as well.

Always had good extra-curriculars.

1. At work: Part of employee training team ( took quite a bit of initiatives) and annual events team (responsible for company's annual events)
2. At college: I was president of the dramatics society (one of the most successful teams of Delhi University), organized quite a few events at national scale, won numerous awards, founded the sports society of college, organized outbound excursions, etc.

Apart from this, I love travelling and I plan to start my venture in the travel space after graduating and look to start more ventures in other industries as a long term goal.

Questions:

1. How well do you think I am positioned for ISB? Should I also apply to global schools? (People in the past from my office with similar position have gone to LBS, Kellogg, etc but with more experience)

2. For essay number 1, I was thinking of writing one of my achievements from college as it was significant and changed my outlook towards life? Does it make sense or should I stick to something more recent (which are not that substantial)?

Thanks in advance,
Sanchit

Hi Sanchit

You are very well positioned for ISB. You can also apply to global schools, but schools like Kellogg, LBS, and INSEAD (as examples) generally like to see a bit more experience (including some international experience) and leadership, though that is of course a general statement. Some research centers also have have the option of moving to the consulting side after a while, and that might be a significant advantage in case it is available/will be available, in case you are planning to apply to global schools later in your career.

For essay 1, ISB is open to all topics, including personal themes (as they say in the essay question itself). However, you should focus on the impact you had and what it shows about you, not just on the fact that the incident changed your outlook about life. Show clearly how it differentiates you as a candidate to ISB.

Another question.

Do you have any idea how many recommendations we need this year? and what are the exact questions?

Also does taking a recommendation from a non-MBA manager impact the application?

Hello People,

I have a query regarding how does a greater work experience impact admissions in ISB. I have an experience of more than eight years into IT product development. My GMAT score is 690. My acads are average lying in the five point something range.

On the extra circular front I have some stellar performances. I look forward to a product Management role in future.
My dilemma is should I go after improving my GMAT score or focus on my applications. All advice is welcome, let them come guys.

Thanks.

FROM ISB Admissions Blog: What do we look for in a PGP Candidate?
There are three broad areas on which we evaluate the potential of a candidate

1. Academic Record:

We believe a good academic record is an indicator of the candidate’s ability to take up the rigour of the programme. We evaluate candidates on two things

A) The Academic Foundation and B) GMAT Score

A) Academic foundation would mean a candidate’s schooling and under graduation.  We are looking for strong 12th standard scores and graduation grades.

B) GMAT Score: While there is no minimum score required for admission. The scores in the current class range from 600 to 780. We consider only the highest valid GMAT score. We look at the overall score and do not have any sectional cut-offs.

Having said that the standardized tests are just one of several admission criteria. A high score does not guarantee admission and a below average score does not eliminate a candidate. If you have poor 12th and graduation grades you can compensate for that with a good GMAT score and vice-versa.

2. Leadership Attributes:

A leader is someone who demonstrates what’s possible. – Mark Yarell

While assessing your application, we look for people who have demonstrated leadership qualities in their professional or personal lives. Leadership qualities don’t necessarily mean leading teams – they could also mean the initiatives you had taken, your achievements, impact-orientation and career progression.

Your essays and recommendation letter play a critical role in giving us clarity on your strengths in this section of evaluation.

3.Personal Attributes:

In this section we assess your personal attributes on various parameters–like your ability to handle pressure, innovate, think analytically and creatively, your personal and moral integrity, communication skills, learnability etc  Your extracurricular activities and interests beyond your work life gives us insights on your personal qualities. At ISB, we would look for versatile and well-rounded individuals who can contribute to the society in positive and meaningful ways. The personal attributes are assessed through your essays and interview process.

You have to fare well in all the three areas to get an offer from ISB.

Only one recommendation is needed this year. Taking a recommendation from a non-MBA manager will not impact the application. What matters is what your recommender says about you, not his/her qualifications (provided he is senior to you - that is a requirement).

FROM ISB Admissions Blog: When should you apply- Cycle 1 or Cycle 2?
Considering applying to ISB, but not sure – if you should apply in Cycle 1 (C1) or give it more thought and apply in Cycle 2 (C2)?

Applying to ISB in C1 has a few added incentives. However, it is recommended that you apply only when you are absolutely ready and prepared with your application.

Here are a few reasons you should consider applying in C1.

10-full tuition fee waiver

ISB gives out ten full tuition waivers as merit scholarships for the shortlisted candidates from the Round 1 applications. A monetary aid would be of great help since there won’t be a constant source of income for the next one year and it will ease the burden of any student loan post graduation.

50% of the Scholarships – Partial Tuition fee waiver

You would be eligible for 50% of the total scholarships – both Merit and Means. The Merit scholarships amounts to INR 5-10 lakh and the Means or Need-based Scholarship is awarded to deserving candidates in the Cycle 1 applications, which amounts to INR 3-5 lakh tuition fee waiver.

Ample time to plan your exit

If selected in C1, you will have ample time to plan your exit from the company you are currently working with and prepare for joining the School. You might also consider taking a break or spend time with family and plan your year before the gruelling regime starts.

When should you consider applying for Round 2?

If there is any project pending completion that would reflect well on your achievements, or you are expecting a promotion or career progression and you want to highlight that in your ISB application, and you think it will make your application stronger then you can consider applying for Round 2.

So, start as early as possible and do have your application reviewed by friends or colleagues.

Good luck!

Hello frndzz,

Finally submitted my app today. Anybody else who submitted for R1.I got a conformation mail from ISB which says it takes upto 2 weeks to review app, while the pdf of my application which was generated upon submission mentions that the process takes 5 weeks.

Anyway the wait begins for me. If somebody can clarify how the process works from here on. I mean when does ISB will intimate whether everything is in order or something is missing, for instance the official score did not reach etc.

Goodluck to all other applicants

Regards

Hi,

I am a business economics graduate working in Standard and Poor's financial research division for the past 5 years. Did my graduation from Delhi University and was among the top 5 rankers in the university. Even in school, I got 96.6% in X and 90% in XII. By the age of 25, I already have an experience of more than 5 years and have quickly progressed through the ranks to be a Senior Associate. All through my school and thereafter, I have been heavily involved in ECA activities including, National level parliamentary debating, adjudication, editor of the National Service Scheme magazine, President of college's Placement Cell, radio jockey at a leading FM station, admission counselor in college etc. I have also been a part of the youth parliament during my school days and a hockey player at the inter school level. At workplace I am one of the youngest Senior Associates in the entire office and have handled critical tasks much beyond the scope of my designation. Though I have not been on any international assignments, the marvels of new technology have allowed me to work with teams based in Manila, Buenos Aires, New York and London and also impart training to the respective team members. I was also handpicked as one of three females from the entire floor to be a part of the innovation team at work. In my free time I am an amateur rock climber and an enthusiastic trekker with an avid interest in gardening and making terrariums. I have also been a part of the NSS, Teach India and a part of the community welfare initiatives at work aiding various NGOs under CSR.

Though I am yet to give my gmat later next month, I am soliciting critical appraisal of my profile and am hoping for any other pointers in my profile that will help me in my application.
