Post MBA goals:
Post MBA I plan to continue in tech, with focus on Product Management or Strategy Development field as this is my area of interest.
Product Management makes complete sense. Let's not bring 'Strategy Development' (whatever it is) into picture for now pshreyan_17.

Can you please help me in understanding what should be my target GMAT FE score with this profile?
655+. The higher, the better.

Also, I am planning to do some product management online certification courses on platforms like coursera, edx etc. Could you please let me know if these certification courses are worth it or not?
Do not do this now. Completely focus on maximizing your GMAT score. Once you do get a very good GMAT score and if you have time, please indulge yourself in these certification courses, but spare yourself from this bandwidth diversion for now.

As you would know sdsaddwqe234234, your CGPA in college is not one of your strengths. So, you need to compensate for it, by getting a very good GMAT score, preferably 675+. You might find this article of interest.

You have not mentioned your professional goals, but that can wait. GMAT score, and a great one at that, should be your #1 priority.

@Ashi1204 - some more details can help assess your profile better - whats the pedigree of your employer - branded/ small-mid sized etc.? is it a client-facing or back-end consulting role? did you receive any promotions? etc.

Extracurricular activities is another angle worth mentioning.

ISB's latest published average is a 675 (GFE equivalent), so aiming for 10-20+ points above this would be ideal.

@beauty207 - Your acads and undergrad pedigree seem good.

Having mentored several O&G professionals (assuming a government role, though this comment holds true irrespective), I would say that your biggest challenge (and opportunity) is to (A) highlight the tangible impact and transferable skills from your role, (B) be clear on your post-MBA goals, and (C) have a strong narrative on your overall journey and how/ why an MBA and particularly ISB fits in. Without details on (A) and (B), it'd be difficult to assess your profile well.

Aiming for a 685-695+ GFE would be ideal, to complement the overall profile.

You've also not mentioned your professional goals, post ISB. Nevertheless, your preference right now should be to get a 665+ on your GMAT.

Good luck!

Fantastic profile, good academic pedigree and a strong career trajectory. Pre-MBA experience in renewable energy with projects involving industrial design and demand forecasting/planning is top-notch for someone coming from industry. Usually people from within these sectors have experience only in the operational aspects of projects and not so much exposure to the building blocks of businesses. This variety of work you have done in industry will give you a lot to talk about in terms of your motivations for further strategic roles in these sectors. With new ISB essays, there is all the more reason to showcase your sectoral expertise which becomes a compelling point for a top-tier B school to grant you that coveted admit. You may read my winning tips for acing the NEW ISB ESSAYS. Aim for an impressive score and feel free to speak for a focused strategy.

Hi all,

Professional exp (3.5 yrs, ~4.5 as on 31st mar 2025):
Working as a Senior Application Engineer for the multinational computer technology company Oracle.
Application engineer is a techno-functional kind of role where we need to implement the tool not just from a technical standpoint but also given a responsibility to come up with a strategy/features necessary to embark functional value according to industry use.
I am majorly working on a Project Management tool which helps businesses plan, evaluate, execute, and monitor projects from conception to completion.
From a functional standpoint, I came up with a solution of an integrated chatbot for our Project Management tool which is now supporting MVP of the work. The project is live now and customers have also started using it. Apart from that, I am also responsible for the technology shift from engineering point that is currently going on in our organization.
I have also worked with several clients, including Delloite, WSP, Italdesign etc., to fix their issues raised via service request portal. While working with clients, I got a chance to understand the usage of our products from other businesses’ points of view, which helps me in coming up with the necessary functional use case for our product. I have got one promotion during my 3.5 years of work ex.

Can you please help me in understanding what should be my target GMAT FE score with this profile?
Also, I am planning to do some product management online certification courses on platforms like coursera, edx etc. Could you please let me know if these certification courses are worth it or not?
pshreyan_17  A seemingly average technical profile for ISB, but I have to say I love how you talk about your projects and emphasize deep thinking, which is a key trait for future leaders on the product side. Unpack your experiences and reconstruct your stories to show how working on strategic projects in close collaboration with clients and business leaders has given you hands-on experience, experiential maturity and the ability to contextualize business problems specific to your area of work in product design and implementation. This sets you apart from the typical engineers who apply in large numbers. At this point you should focus on the GMAT and presenting a solid application. Last minute online courses hardly do anything to impress the adcoms. Your hands-on experience and insights from it is worth so much more than a theoretical course. People get into PM or consulting without coursera courses too so do not overthink in that aspect.

I am going to be brutally honest and say that you should aim for a score upwards of 695. You have the right personality and the right outlook for an MBA program, so you should not be complacent about your GMAT score. Keep up the good work!
Feel free to ask for advice.

This is very interesting information @admitStreet.

Can you perhaps point me to the source, so I can further read up on this.

Ashish.
I was referring to the GFE equivalent of ISB’s GMAT Classic stats, Ashish, as we don’t have the GFE stats yet. Isn’t 720 (Classic) around ISB’s average?

sdsaddwqe234234  You cannot avoid providing context behind your career decisions - studying architecture but building a career in software. Without that and an idea of post-MBA goals, there is no point in a profile evaluation. If you don’t rationalize your actions, you will be rejected because the reviewer would think that your profile is an exception and it would be very time-consuming and risky to consider you for an interview. Beyond this, how you have shown incremental growth progression in the last 5 years is also important. Hope you will reflect and plan better. Feel free to seek advice

good profile @Ashi1204.

The client-facing consulting role is a strong angle, and ZS is typically a feeder brand for ISB. EC’s seem alright, but any exposure to more recent and consistent activities would be great.

Having a strong narrative for your post-mba goals, and how/ why MBA (and particularly ISB) would be crucial.

For now, I would suggest aiming for a good score (ideally 675+).

All the best!
