I want to know my chances of getting into ISB since I have zero work experience and don’t have any significant extracurricular activities.
Well KT1211, zero work experience is the reason you are applying to YLP  :).

With a 100 percentile on GMAT, nothing can prevent you from getting an interview call.

Even in the interview, you need to royally mess up, to not get selected.

All the best!

Decent credentials but unsure what your expectation is. I hope you've reviewed the ISB essays and understand the importance of clearly rationalizing your career decisions, growth trajectory, and post-MBA goals, all of which are missing here.

Yes yes...that's completely fine. I thought ISB has specifically published GFE data and was curious.

Thanks for your response.

Hi. I am looking for a profile evaluation.

Class X: 93.8%
Class XII: 95.2%
Undergrad: 8.8 GPA
Institute: NSUT (ECE branch)
GMAT: 735

I have just graduated from NSUT and started my job as a technical consultant at PwC a couple of weeks ago. I applied to ISB YLP, cleared round 1, and am now preparing my application for round 2.

I want to know my chances of getting into ISB since I have zero work experience and don’t have any significant extracurricular activities.
Hello,

Aanya here (CoFounder UniAdvise and London Business School Alumni). Other admits include ISB, INSEAD, LSE, and Imperial.

In the last year, we’ve helped 70+ students with universities such as Duke (6+), HEC (6+), Cambridge (13+), Imperial (24+), ISB (4+).

There are three profiles that the admissions committee at ISB looks at when evaluating your profile:

1. Academic: Great CGPA and GMAT score. Hence, you’re sorted here.

2. Professional: You’ve got some nice brand names however how you present your work done under each experience in the application form will make all the difference. Result oriented words, quantified achievements, international exposure- must be highlighted. The essays should also show alignment in terms of your prior undertakings and future goals.

3. Interpersonal: This area is something that students often overlook. In ISB, we don’t have to submit a CV but insert information in different sections. Adding relevant engagements, showing impact created, displaying leadership skills, and entrepreneurial acumen is important. Do work towards this properly!

You’ve gotten through round 1 which means that they like your base profile already. The key is ensuring that there are no gaps in the profile and ensuring comprehensiveness in the storyline. Till the time that’s done, chances are bright!

You can reach out for more details on how to go about the above points!

Regards,
Aanya Jain

@Nikita201 - some more details can help assess your profile better. For instance:

- The size/ brand of your company (Fortune-100, start-up etc.), your role: functions/ domains, any promotions (?)
- Any extracurriculars post undergrad?
- Your post-MBA goals

Aiming for a 675+ in GFE would be ideal.

Feel free to reach out for a deeper chat.

Arvind

Hi Nikita,
For the current cycle till date the ISB application form doesn't have a section for 10th and 12th grades, so that's something we can put aside for the moment. Your Btech grades are Ok, and I don't think you have written the GMAT or the GRE yet, so while you are at it, try to target a higher than average GMAT score. A relatively stronger GMAT score will definitely speak for your academic capability. Two years of work experience is just at the threshold for the ISB eligibility, so the challenge for you would be show the professional readiness for the MBA. Spend time on doing that well.

All the best!

Profile Evaluation and GMAT Focus Target Score

Education:

Undergraduate Degree: B.Arch from IIT Roorkee (through JEE Advanced) - CGPA: 6.9
10th Grade: 8.8
12th Grade: 78%

Work Experience:

5 years of experience as a software developer.
Worked for startups in the fintech and GIS-based industries.

Extracurricular Activities:

Won 2 events in the college tech fest.
Worked on BIM modeling for the IIT Roorkee campus.

There are a few other extracurricular activities in which I have participated, but I don’t clearly remember them now.
Hey! Your work experience is pretty decent but you will have to highlight a bit more about the kind of experience you have had in terms of the projects managed, leadership initiatives, promotion etc. to get a thorough and detailed profile evaluation. Fintech is a booming sector so it will be worthwhile to highlight that experience in order to get an edge over other applicants. Along with this you will also have to highlight your post-MBA goals and how ISB/MBA will help you achieving those.

Also, you will have to get a good GMAT score (675+) to make your profile standout.

We have 40+ mentors from ISB on our platform IvyCrackers and few of them are on ISB admissions interview panel. You can book a complimentary 30-mins call with us and one of the interview panelists will evaluate your profile in detail. In this call, we will delve deep into your profile, help you build an overall strategy for your ISB application, and answer any questions you have about ISB.

Banasthali is obviously a big plus in your profile Nikita201. However, I don't get any sense of:

i) Your current employer
ii) The nature of your work-experience
iii) Extra-curricular
iv) Professonal goals
v) GMAT preparation and expected score (665+ would be great)

harshita98999 Hi, I always advise candidates to evaluate whether they think their work experience would carry the weight of the GMAT score or the other way around. Which one do you think it is in your case? What are the exceptional points in your career trajectory? I do not see clear growth progression, but the diversity in the industries can be an interesting point. If you have worked in multiple industries, albeit in a similar function, showcase in the application an immersive knowledge about the industry dynamics, challenges, and value proposition for the customer. What are the nuances of these industries, and how did you have to think on your feet as a software/AI engineer? What did you learn while creating that product-client fit? Don't miss highlighting "fast learning," team building, and the ability to combine technical prowess with a vision for the company's business.
Feel free to speak for a strategy session

Best wishes

@harshita98999 - some thoughts:

1. The GPA is a bit on the lower side, which university did you go to? Not sure a 645 would be ideal, I would suggest aiming for a 665 - 675+

2. Work-ex presents some interesting angles, but I'd like to understand your professional arc better. Particularly: (A) the motivations behind your job transitions (B) key achievements and skillsets picked in each role (C) what your post-MBA goals are

3. Would like to understand your ECs/ volunteering (and other) work better, as this would be crucial to present a holistic profile.

Hi harshita98999! Your 10th and 12th acads are good but your undergrads grades are average, so you should target a higher GMAT score (675+). The major reason is that it will help you overcome the average acads. Secondly, it will also help your profile to stand out coz your overall work experience is around 4 years which is a highly competitive pool at ISB (if you look at recent stats). Third, the pool of IT aspirants is overrepresented and you will be falling into that pool, but your experience as AI engineer might give you a bit of edge.

Your NGO experience will certainly be useful and you should build stories around how this experience has shaped you at a personal level. You can use this story for Essay1.

Will need more details about your work experience to provide a detailed evaluation.

We have 40+ mentors from ISB on our platform IvyCrackers and few of them are on ISB admissions interview panel. You can book a complimentary 30-mins call with us and one of the interview panelists will evaluate your profile in detail.
