Hey guys,

I have applied to Rice in R2, i submitted the application on Dec22, 2014 and recommendation was completed on Jan2, 2015. My application status says that your application was completed on 16 Jan'15. Does this mean that my application will be considered for Round 3?

I believe that it is better to ask Rice staff about this... you can also raise a request to consider ur application in R2.

The activity on this thread is a lot lower than one year prior, what do you all think is the reason?

Had my Interview yesterday. The interviewer was a 2nd year student.
The whole interview was formal with the general questions : tell me about yourself, why MBA, why now, why Rice.

Hi all!
I got interviewed on 30th Jan by a second yr. student(He was very polite and friendly)
The interview was very conversational and lasted for around 35 minutes ( with smiles off course !)
Most of the questions were based upon my work & my role. A few ques. on my strengths with examples, Why MBA, Why Rice and why you wanna be a consultant.
Last 10 minutes were spent on my questions for the interviewer.

Just had my interview with a second year student.
1. Walk me through your resume.
2. What is your biggest accomplishment?
3. Have you had a leadership role?
4. How did you handle a setback?
5. Give an instance where you had to manage a conflict.
6. Why do you want to do an MBA?
7. Why Rice?
8. Any questions for me? I asked her about internationals landing internships to which she also told me that most of the internationals looking for an internship were able to land one.

Interview lasted 37 minutes on Skype. She was taking notes throughout and did not give away whether she was impressed by my answers or not, but I do somehow felt that she was in a hurry to leave. I guess we will know on 27th whether I was able to make an impact or not :)

Is the CEO-Employee Pay Gap Lower than we Thought?  [#permalink]

FROM Jones(Rice) Admissions Blog: Is the CEO-Employee Pay Gap Lower than we Thought?
So says new research from Rice professors.

Faculty Focus
At the Jones School, MBA candidates are taught by preeminent scholars who are fascinated by the ideas that help leaders become more thoughtful, strategic and effective. These professors are at the forefront of their fields and have an “open-door policy” for students, giving Jones MBA candidates direct access to some of the best minds in business research.

Faculty Focus is our new blog feature that highlights some of the latest research from these faculty members.

Karen Nelson
Harmon Whittington Professor of
Accounting
Accounting professors Karen Nelson and Brian Rountree recently co-wrote a paper with UH accounting professor Steven Crawford that’s causing some interest as it challenges previously reported information about the pay gap between CEOs and the average worker.

Says Nelson, “We document that the gap between CEO and employee pay is likely much smaller for most firms than the perception ingrained in the financial and popular media. By providing a more complete understanding of pay ratios across firms, our findings inform the ongoing policy debate on pay disparity.”

Associate Professor of Accounting

The paper uses compensation data available for the banking sector to provide some of the first large-sample, company-specific evidence on CEO-employee pay ratios and their relation to subsequent firm performance, risk and shareholder advisory votes on executive compensation packages. More about their findings can be accessed via Rice News and the Jones School site.
In addition to being renowned researchers, both Nelson and Rountree have won multiple teaching awards at the Jones School.
