First question was different from the practice question. It was something like "most interesting person you have met and why they are interesting?". I felt I did good on this.

Second question was the pathway and why Kellogg question. I did not do a great job here. Fumbled a lot and talked about why Kellog for only 10 seconds as I was running out of time.

I hope they do not give a lot of weight to these essays or my Kellogg dreams are over.

Dont worry bro! A couple of days ago when I did my video essays, I felt that it was a disaster. I searched on web to know how much importance they give to this part. Looks like we all get a second chance in the form of interview. Interview is not by invitation but for everyone. Don't judge yourself harshly. I found this amazing blog https://journeytobschool.wordpress.com/. Looks like everything is not lost. At least you re not alone.

Has anyone else gotten an interview yet? I just got an email yesterday with my interviewer details and asked to schedule something within the next two weeks...I did NOT realize it would be this soon after we submit!

As a R1 admit, I think I need to mention a couple of things:

1. Video essay is only 1 of the many different things that the adcoms will take into consideration. Do not spend too much time on analyzing how did your video essay go. It is a 1 minute thing, wherein Kellogg wants to see if you can talk for 1 minute using coherent sentences or can you provide your point of view on the topic at hand for 1 minute. Again, 1 minute is not much wrt time given but try to do your best. I also felt my 1st question could have been a lot better (did not tie in the answer to this question to how Kellogg will help me develop that personality trait but still got in!). As for my 2nd question, I knew it would be a why Kellogg, ST/LT goals etc type of question so didnt even wait for the timer to start and I started to ramble on with my answer (not a good strategy though!). Listen to the question and try to adapt. Finally, video essays are not going to be make or break for the applicants.

2. Interviews are sent out to MOST and not all as is evident from some people on GMATCLUB getting interview waivers. Kellogg sends out waivers initially to people who are not matched with an alum interviewer for off campus interviews. Waivers are by no means a direct ding as there were a couple of instances in R1 of people with waivers who ended up getting invited for an interview later in the process. All interviews MUST be completed by 27 Feb 2016 (mentioned in your application submission confirmation email).

Hope this clears some of the doubts.

Its good that you already got your email. I also got it the week after I had submitted my R1 application and scheduled my interview for the week after.

Video essay submitted and now my fingers are crossed.

Question 1 : Tell us something about a job you did not like working at?
Questions 2 : Standard - What path do you want to pursue at Kellogg and how will you achieve your goals here?

I had prepared answers to 30 odd questions and had rehearsed them for hours. But, I did't get any of them. However, I believe that practice paid off well as I answered the first question with much ease. Please don't fret over the video essay. I am pretty bad at these things, and I have a feeling that overall I did well.

Just waiting for a miracle to happen as Kellogg is a long shot for me. But hey, if I don't believe in myself, who else will?

Non-Us applicant here, got my invite yesterday morning, before submitting my video essay. My questions where smething like "If the people you know defined you in one owrk, what would it be" and "what is your career path". I believe I underperformed in both questions, since I answered the first one more like "how would I describe myself in one word", and for the second one I got confused by the wording "career path", believing it was some Kellogg's slang for pathways, which derailed my answer.

Hope it goes well.

Best of luck to everyone.

Did the video essay last night, it was pretty tough. I feel I'm a pretty good interviewer and I practiced the format quite a bit, but it still threw me once it came time to actually respond.

Q1: What do other people do that bothers you and why?
-I thought I had a good response to this question, but definitely had some run-on sentences in my explanation. Caught myself fumbling for words a few times.

Q2: Why Kellogg, etc.
-This one was tough for me despite having prepared for it. Like some others here, I spent about 45 seconds on the first part of the question and only 15 seconds on Kellogg itself, and I kind of got cut off at the end too.

All-in-all, I know this is just one part of the process, so I'm trying to stay optimistic. Can't wait to visit campus and interview.

A bit confused with all these talks of interview invites - doesn't everyone get to interview? I signed up for an interview when I submitted my application. Are there additional interviews that you get invites to or is this just a case of US vs. non-US application differences?

It is only for off campus interview invitations. You must have signed up for an on campus interviews. My comments were directed more towards international candidates who will be doing off campus interviews with alumni.

The deadline to finish all the interviews is 27 Feb (as mentioned in your application submission confirmation email, screenshot below). Although it is difficult to predict till what date will the interviews be sent out for off-campus interviews.

From Kellogg to Goldman Sachs [#permalink]

FROM Kellogg MBA Blog: From Kellogg to Goldman Sachs
Image
Tim Bossidy’s passion for finance is what brought him to Kellogg, where he is a second-year student. He felt the school’s curriculum, personalized career support and collaborative community would set him apart as he pursued a career in investment banking.

This past summer, Tim was one of four Kellogg students who interned at Goldman Sachs. All four will return to work at Goldman Sachs full time after graduation.

Tim recently participated in a Career Management Center webinar about career opportunities and career support at Kellogg. Watch the entire webinar, or continue reading to see what Tim had to say about recruiting, Kellogg’s finance curriculum and the school’s uniquely supportive community.

On choosing Kellogg
I was incredibly impressed with the quality of finance professors here. Day at Kellogg is really what sealed the deal for me. The Investment Banking and Capital Management club gave a presentation and talked about the personalized support you get for IB here at Kellogg.

Additionally, one of the keynote alumni speakers was one of the top global partners at Goldman Sachs. I really started to get excited about the opportunities of recruiting to the sell-side at Kellogg.

On recruiting
My experience recruiting was really positive. Investment banking recruiting is a unique animal. It’s a really intense process, but part of why it’s so intense is because of how much demand there is from investment banks for Kellogg students. We had 35 people recruiting for investment banking and more than 30 investment banks coming in to recruit the 35 of us. We spent a lot of time talking to a lot of different bankers, which was a little overwhelming at times, but it was also a really nice position to be in.

On interning, and getting a job offer, from Goldman Sachs

Overall it’s pretty amazing, a little scary how much MBA interns are trusted to jump right in with immediate responsibility. Given those responsibilities, it is really important that you’re at a school where your courses are preparing you. At Kellogg, I thought the finance curriculum was awesome. Not only was I confident in feeling incredibly prepared and that the Kellogg students were some the best prepared among the MBA interns, but out of the four of us (Kellogg students) at Goldman Sachs US, there was a 100% offer rate. We’re all going back. It really speaks to the quality of teaching here.

On the alumni network
The pass-it-on, giveback culture stays with people as alumni. You really don’t stop drinking the Kellogg Kool-Aid, so to speak, after you leave. The Kellogg alumni at Goldman were actively reaching out to me throughout the summer, checking in and giving me advice. If they ever got feedback of something I needed to tweak or work on, they would give me a call. They were so invested in me not only liking my summer, but me getting that full-time offer.

I had a fantastic summer, and thanks to the support of Kellogg and the students here especially, I’m going to be really well prepared going back.

On the school’s unique community
After Day at Kellogg, you get a really good feel for whether or not Kellogg is a “fit.” For me it was definitely the right fit. There’s an amazing sense of community here. There really is a give-back-to-your-fellow-classmates mentality.

I can’t say enough about the community here. You have this amazing network of people who are helping you and invested in making sure you get a great job.

Watch the complete Career Opportunities webinar.
