Take my opinions with a huge pinch of salt given that this is the first time I’ve applied to a masters program and haven’t hard back yet so I don’t know, definitely, what they want. Firstly why didn’t your interview go well? Was the interviewer unnecessarily aggressive or did you make any mistakes during the process? From what you’ve shared so far, your career projection is very perplexing. You started in the mid-office and switched to Big 4 Consulting. So far so good. But then you left in 8 months for VC. Why? Did you decide that was your calling? If yes, why did you move again and if no, why did you take the VC role in the first place? Then you’ve moved to a media company in a non-finance role. So my question is, what are you trying to do in the long term and why go to business school?
Posted from my mobile device Thanks for this. The interview was slightly weird because the interviewer was aggressive from the get go, which in turn made me nervous. However, I should just have been better prepared for that.
As for the career trajectory, I have dabbled quite a bit, all in an attempt to find a calling. The switch to VC was yes, because it was my calling. However, the firm went through some restructuring issues lately, and growth and job security became an issue, which led me to seek out a move. As Chief of Staff, I’m still fairly in touch with the startup world, so I figured that might be easy to explain.
Why MBA? I have been working in and around the media industry all my life, and I want to get a more broad experience, working across industries. Also, my partner recently moved to London, so a large part of it is personal as well. Post MBA, I’ll aim to get into strategy consulting, and transition into VC/corporate development later.
