Admissions teams start building their class in Round 1, so they’re more open to varied profiles, industries, and geographies. By Round 2, they already know what’s missing or overrepresented, which makes things tougher if you’re from an overrepresented pool. R1 also gives you earlier access to scholarships and the safety net of reapplying elsewhere in the same cycle if things don’t work out. The trade-off is that a rushed, weaker R1 application can hurt you more than waiting for R2. Think of it as arriving at the buffet when it first opens, there’s more variety and better chances but R2 is still solid if you come prepared. The mantra is prepared-ness >> perfection
