Got an emailed interview invite today. But, I already got into Columbia in the ER round, so I'm going to write them back to withdraw my application.

Congrats! This is a great news but in the meantime a little shocking for me.
NYU has started inviting people who applied after R1 (10/15). Does that mean, the remaining R1 applicants who did not receive invitation are just waiting for a disappointing ding?
I heard from couple of current NYU students/admission fellows that there would be an invite going out in 2 or 3 weeks after submission, if there is one. Anyone can share different stories/information?

Looks like it. We will probably get the declined email on Dec 15th.

Wow... ok. Then from now on, maybe I just need to stop checking this thread, and patiently wait for a ding letter. Or maybe even forget about it. Hopefully I can.

I wouldn't count anyone out yet. I applied R1 and just received an interview invitation, and a lot of people seemed to have received invitations in December last year. Still should have hope until you hear otherwise!

What is the e-mail from Stern with instructions on how to create/access account? I didn't get one and I applied 10/15 - did they send that to everyone?

Not everyone, this only concerns people who applied through an organization called "The Consortium"

Also, based on the posts from 2014 and 2013, it seems that R1 interviews were still going out through around Dec 10. WLs and dings started going out around the first week of Dec. as well. In 2013, a R2 applicant got an interview invite before some R1s so there is still hope!

Just seems like a bizarre way to do things and kind of defeats the purpose of having rounds.

Technically NYU operates under rolling admissions and the dates are deadlines, which only guarantee a "response by" date if you submit by the deadline. They are not the traditional rounds commonly used by other programs. Again, this is all technically. As to how that translates into the decision timeline, your guess is as good as mine.

As unfair as it is, I think you nailed it.

I actually went there and spoke to the admission, apparently their rounds are not really rounds...they told me the interview invites are on rolling basis, the earlier you get it, the sooner your interviewer submit feedback, the higher chance of you getting admitted. So they are on a hybrid mode I guess.
Tbh my visit was quite disappointed... so I won't feel bad if I didn't get an invite :P
