I wouldn't read too much into videos... Mine was viewed in full in MA once in the couple days after the deadline and again in the first week or so of October. I would trust they view it at the appropriate stage of consideration.

I think I am heading for a ding. My optional essay hasn't been viewed yet. 2 days back it was viewed by someone from Russia. :?

I am very annoyed by this mit process. I am not at all anxious, just annoyed.

Mit asks us to send our resume, gmat, a short essay and a video that they want to be no longer than one minute.

Honestly, I don't think mit can get a clear image from the candidate with just that.

All the other applications I sent were incredibly more rich than mit's.

On top of that, it has been a month and the adcom has not yet seen some of the material tha applicants have sent.

They have less material to review and they take the longest?!

I don't know, perhaps mit is seriously understaffed...

That's why I did not do my optional essay LOL just didnt think it would add more value anyway, and it was optional so...yeah

Well if they are understaffed....maybe it will offer some new students part time jobs on the adcom to review the materials in the future LOLOLOL

But yeah, all jokes aside, I do agree with you on their process being slow and strange. We are all in this together though.

They might send out interview invites before the 26th, but an applicant would have to be crazy to schedule one for that early. That leaves just 5 days - including 4 business days - to write the extra essay.

Yeah I was thinking about that too - my application essay took a few days to draft, then I sent it to a friend to review and critique, got it back and made changes accordingly, and then sent it out again to have another critique before I finalized it. If they gave me like 2 days to do this second one......

Well at least that will mean I am selected for an inty I guess.

How is everyone holding up here?

Apart from the essays, it leaves 3-4 days for booking tickets, travelling, preparing for interview and attending it. 5-6 days for all this is just a lot to handle.

There are a bunch of local applicants, myself among them. I agree that 6 days isn't a lot of notice but it's hardly a dealbreaker.

If anything, a Skype interview is always an option if I am not mistaken.

I have already visited MIT's campus twice, so going there for the visit doesn't make too big of a difference regardless. It is just that, maybe being there in person for the inty highers the chance of admission.

Last minute tickets from Canada, would be quite a blow.

Do invitations come out throughout the whole period (late October - late November) or do they all come out in the same week and then that's it?

I know. I also just had a Sloan email come through. Thought it was an invite, but was about LGBT community! Love my gays, but MIT don't tease me like that.

They kill me with stuff like that. I got a Sloan Healthcare Webinar one the other day that about caused a heart attack.
