Calling all Sloan MIT Applicants (2016 Intake) Class of 2018!!

Well, to be fair, I think optional can go both ways, it is optional for you, and optional for them as well. I remember there's one guy that got invited fairly early didn't even have his optional essay viewed. I assume he's good enough that they want him badly. In this case, they probably think your profile is not good enough that even the optional essay won't help. (which I have no idea how in the world they did that.)

I think there's always some luck involved, and you can't control that....good luck to you guys and hopefully you'll get in somewhere else!

I am remembering the multiple Sloan students/alumni who'd read my essay and resume and said you should at least get an interview invite!

I have a friend got dinged as well. Female, 770 gmat, 4.0 GPA magna cum laude, 4 year WE with promotions, and solid extra activities.

i gotta wonder how someone like that doesn't even get offered an interview? the essay must have been unconvincing? i consider myself absolutely lucky to be rubbing shoulders with some of these elite students

Business school isn't like undergrad. It's not numbers driven enough to be completely linear. Meaning, just because you get Wharton it doesn't mean you are a lock for the 4-7 M7s. You can be a great fit at Wharton and a bad one at Sloan as the schools arent all that similar.

People on GMATclub put a lot of emphasis on numbers, and rightly so, but I'm convinced people here don't spend enough time thinking about the other parts of their app and how it fits for each different school.

I would think most people actually consider the applications from a very well rounded perspective. If you go back to the past posts, you would see that most people spend way more time discussing the optional essays than any other things "combined". People also talk a lot about essays, so I think saying people put too much emphasis on numbers is not an accurate statement. People talk about numbers because they are easy to compare, without sharing your essays here and have real adcom members comment and grade them here, how would you know who got a better essay? On the other hand, the gpa and GMAT (especially this) are relatively standardized, and is a good starting point. Also....speaking about focusing on numbers, I think it is important to reflect on the name of this forum, which is GMATclub not MBAclub.

I do agree with your opinion that getting a harvard inty or admission does not, and should not guarantee an MIT inty because of the fit. Glad to see at least a good number of people here are getting a good chance at getting in. Good luck to all!

Is it just me that I feel this year they invited less (at least according to GMAT Club stats) to interview?

Invites are not over yet (although pretty close), but yeah in the dinged message I got, they said they only will admit 350 people this year. And in the past I think they accepted just over 400 on average each year? A 12.5% decrease, quite substantial.

I think its impossible to read into the admissions process. I was dinged from Harvard and Wharton without interview, like will be dinged from Stanford as well. Some reason Sloan interviews me but dings people invited to the other school for interview?

I think we all just need to close our eyes and fast forward to December

I like the recommendation! I tried it a few times, but always woke up the next morning, so I stopped trying it.
