I was wondering- do you know if the stanford GSB automatically considers your application for round 2 if you are denied admission in round 1? Or can an applicant basically apply to both rounds?

I believe you can only apply for 1 of the 3 rounds. You may be WL'd during Round 1, in which case you will be considered during round 2, but if you've been denied, you can reapply the following year.

Yes that is correct. Each year you can apply to one round only. Stanford may choose to waitlist you and review your profile again in a subsequent round or once all of the rounds are over, but most applicants are either given an interview invite or are denied.

Good luck!

In for R1! Good luck all!

I'm curious though - how do some people already know their decision for Stanford R1?

Hi there,

I have a quick question about the impact of number of years of work experience. I saw the GSB average is 4.8 but mine is going to be more like 7 years and 4 months by the time I apply. This is because I transitioned from an operational role to strategy consulting pre-MBA (within the same firm) - I can show rapid growth in strat consulting and have a great story for why MBA. So I'm wondering if have "too much WE" is a negative for me? If so, then any ideas on how I can tackle this? I have some really great recommenders batting for me so I can also request them to include a line or two about this.

Please let me know!

Ok so wondering how much time people are taking to get their application together? I just have 11 more days for Round 1, and I still dont have a single line for the essays. What say?

I'm in the same boat buddy. Haven't written even a single word :D
But I've been putting my thoughts together on what to write for several months now. So I guess 11 days should be fine!

Don't stress about your too much WE. Present your case well. Try to answer why you've taken this long to decide to do an MBA - either explicitly or implicitly. Then talk about what you will be able to contribute because you have 3.x extra years of experience. You should be ok.

GSB is easily my dream school, and yet it is the only school I don't even bother to day dream about. If I could give myself a negative chance to be accepted, I would. Alas, I have to go with 0%.

Oh well, here is to hoping I am wrong!

Quick question - Can we add inter-school competitions such as debates, stage plays, music, etc under the Awards and Honors category in the online application? Or do we just add substantial honors like finishing in the Dean's List or receiving ABC Honor from XYZ person/organization?

The instructions seem to suggest latter, because some details being asked here are standard in case of inter-school competitions.
"If you have received any awards or honors, congratulations; please tell us about them here. Add them in order of significance to you. In the Basis of Selection field, explain the award criteria, number of recipients, how often this award/honor is given, and who selected the recipients, if this information is available."

Hey everybody! Sending good vibes for the week or so we have left til the R1 deadline. Just wondering - anyone else applying for a joint program (with education or environmental studies)? How are you approaching your personal statement since the "What matters most" and "why stanford" essays already cover the same territory... are you allowing overlap between your regular Stanford GSB essays and the joint degree personal statement or do you treat them as separate essays?

Has anyone figured out how to reorder the Professional Experience section of the application? I added all of my Full Time experience and then went back to add my PT work, but now it's awkwardly in the wrong order. Trying to avoid retyping everything...

I ran into the same issue. Retyping will not fix it.... Stanford told me that when they pull the application on their end, everything is order from most recent to least recent, so dates are very important.

Hope this helps,
