Hi All,
I have a gmat classic 710 and 2.5 years of workex with EY in US taxation around mutual fund clients. Consultants here are suggesting me to wait another year before applying. Do I have a fair shot at mccombs this year?
Any input would be helpful
Hey @Svedant005, I hope you’re doing well!
Your 710 GMAT is strong for McCombs, where the average is around 700. Your EY experience in U.S. taxation and mutual fund clients also aligns well with McCombs’ finance strengths, and the Big 4 brand is a plus.
However, with only 2.5 years of experience (below McCombs’ 5-year average), you’ll need to highlight leadership and impact in your essays. McCombs does value high-potential candidates with fewer years of experience as well, especially if they can show a clear path to future leadership roles. Have you led projects, mentored others, or have any promotions? Show how you’ve maximized your time at EY and articulate clear career goals that align with McCombs.
If you feel that your current work experience highlights substantial leadership and contributions, applying now is viable. If not, waiting another year to gain more responsibilities could strengthen your profile and clarify your goals. All the best!
