Is anyone worried about enrolling if classes go online due to the corona virus?

Yes I am actually quite concerned. It’s not only about our full time MBA turned to online MBA, but also about the risks associated with recruiting for internships. I am from HK/China and really wanna know if the situation can be controlled before orientation.

Best to take it a day at a time. This could get better or much worse, we’ll see. Hoping to just get into Booth first though.

I think a lot of people will get waitlisted because of this...

Why do you think so? If anything more will get admitted! Round 3 will almost be none existent, so they’ll be picking more from the WL.

I think you underestimated how much work schools put into protecting their yield. But I do believe they will take more people off the waitlist for the same reason.

I hope that is true! More people off the waitlist --- and honestly those who are remaining and put in the effort to make a video / etc., they deserve it :). Maybe I am a little biased lol

I do agree that 3rd rounds are going to be rough, especially trying to coordinate interviews.... but 3rd rounds are always small batches and only used to fill remaining gaps in demographics?

Also I really hope that they let waitlists know tomorrow.... it would suck to have to wait all day Wednesday as other calls roll out.... that was painful enough in December!

I wonder if they might not even do calls bc of the virus and just do a portal update on Thursday...

Ross did calls today. I feel like it’s extremely important they call, provide a reassuring voice, and talk about what to expect next. It’ll hurt yield if they just leave it to a random portal update.

entirely my theory and I am in no way, shape, or form saying that Booth will do this. This theory is only based on business sense and discounts the way the entire admission process would be viewed if they (schools) took this approach. The way I see it, there's an unnecessary level of risk of outright accepting international students that may not be able to attend school if things get worst. If I was an Adcom member, I would waitlist international candidates that would have otherwise been accepted in previous cycles. In this way, if this get better, I can just accept those candidates later on (R3 or closer to the summer deadline) or if things get worst, I would have effectively protected my yield.

I think it makes sense to WL candidates that are missing something they’re looking for in there academic or career profile, or because they need to shape the class a certain way. But, blanket WL international students is just bad practice. Yield will be off this year and next year for sure, especially if this whole virtual learning sticks around.

Honestly, I hope that they accept people off the waitlist like they have in the past (high waitlist acceptance).... COVID is a real concern, and I would assume they accept more off the waitlist to fill the class with the right people... I would assume that Round 3 will be pretty sparse (or maybe higher bc of economic concerns and it’s a good time to go to school)...

Really? I thought it was 20-25%? They seem to WL more than other Top schools?

It’s usually a little lower than that. Even so, that’s 1 out of 5 on the waitlist.

I think it might be a bad assumption, but those with the career and money to apply should be able to pay the deposit or easily get a student loan....

Did you apply anywhere else? Assuming you got into multiple places, you could be losing deposit money at many places...
