I think the reason might be because they want people who know the current You and not the You from a job or two ago.
I heard that rumor as well but don't really believe it as what matters is that they can really attest to your strengths and weaknesses.

I completely agree that it's better to have someone write your LOR who can speak to your strengths and weaknesses.

Perhaps we should poll the ED-ers on how many of their letters were written by people at their current job, a past job, or other. :P

For what it's worth, I'm an ED admit and NEITHER of my recommendations came from my current employer. One was from a supervisor at my last job and the other was from a client I worked closely with at my last job.

Submitted on 10/4/12 for rolling admissions, invited today. I doubt geography means much, but I know some people on here think it does, so I'll tell you I'm from the pacific NW.

Nothing new here either. I don't have very high hopes now, to be honest.

Invited to Interview on dec 3rd.
Submitted application on Nov 13th for regular decision.

Hmm that's a big jump from yesterdays invite submit date at 10/4 to today of 11/13. Perhaps there are different groupings within rolling decisions?

From what I heard, they don't even start reading RD applications until november, so even if you submit in octobe, you won't hear back for an interview until the next month. I think the pace picks up drastically after thanksgiving. One girl i know submitted around December 1st last year, got her invite around the 17th or so. Not saying that's gonna happen necessarily this year but food for thought.

So, to play devil's advocate a bit, does that mean if you submitted an app between 10/4 and 11/13 and haven't received an invite yet that you're not getting one?

If you don't hear by mid-december, it's probably a ding.

I submitted mine on November 20th. I'll let you all know when I hear but they explicitly describe their process as chronological so I assume I will hear soon.

Woah! That's the fastest interview invite I've heard of! Congrats. But then again, you do have very strong stats, so the first reader probably recommended an invite for you right away.

Is it correct that this year, our status will be "submitted" the entire time until we get an invite or get dinged?

Even afterwards. I got accepted almost 2 months ago and it still says "Submitted." You just get additional status updates on the next page.
