I am a Canadian and have the option to pick between 7-8 potential interviewers.
They give you a list to choose from??
Do they always do this? (and why?)
Apologies if this is a dumb question and I somehow completely missed this.

The system generates a list for you and then you have to initiate contact with the alumns. Pros - you can use whatever information is online to strategically 'filter through' your interviewers (e.g., through LinkedIn, I found that 3 of my matches were in retail... decided to reach out to them first because I figured we'd have more to talk about). Cons - it can be a painful process. It took me a week to get in touch with someone, and then another week and a half before we were able to get together. Then it's up to the interviewer to submit the feedback, and that timeline can vary. My interviewer submitted within 3-4 days, but I've seen some applicants on here who have waited up to 2 weeks for their interviewer to submit.
Long time lurker here. I'm a Hispanic male from Austin, Texas. I was invited to an information session with CBS back in September. When I attended, I had a really great experience talking to the alums. However, I figured my chances were slim to none so I did not apply for ED or any round since then. Instead, I applied to 6 other schools for Round 1 (including Darden, Tuck, Tepper, etc). I received interview invites at all 6 schools. I keep receiving emails from Columbia regarding scholarships for Latin American students, etc. I'm sure they send this to everyone but still. I'm thinking that perhaps I should apply. Please let me know your opinion.
Stats: 690 GMAT, 4.0 major GPA, 3.7 overall GPA (worked full time through college to support parents), Top Public University in Texas, 6 years work experience (education administration), excellent LOR, Mexican American

Thanks for the comprehensive response.
(*also - sorry gave kudos to the wrong post of yours. meant for that to go on the interview response)
Any other RD applicant (congrats, AH202!) hear anything yet?
No nothing yet. But I submitted only during the 1st week of November.
On the same boat - submitted on the first week of November. Hoping to get an interview invite before xmas break.

Okay...I submitted 2nd week Nov so I guess will need to wait longer...btw,of the 3 RD applicants listed as invited, I think ONE figures as a default number if I am not wrong, so maybe 2 have been invited...

Has anybody from India submitted RD yet?

As long as you submit before mid-february, I think you are more than fine. I suspect the greatest RD wave will come during January, and you have strong stats + interesting/high quality experience. Good luck to you!
I'm kind of torn about what to write for the "What will people in your Cluster be pleasantly surprised to learn about you?" essay. What kind of stuff did you guys write about?

I think you can write about anything you want! Ideally you'd pick something that isn't emphasized in other areas of your application and something that makes you unique.
For example, I wrote about how I lost a lot of weight and got myself into excellent shape. I focused on the idea of setting goals and the process I went through to obtain them.
Have you traveled anywhere special? Do you have 10 siblings or something like that? Think of something upbeat that distinguishes you from others.

Agreed. It's really an opportunity to reveal more about yourself that makes you different than the norm! Show the admissions team that you're not 'just a banker' or not 'just a marketing guy' or not 'just a serial entrepreneur'. What else?

I wrote my essay about a hobby - video production. I talked about how I discovered this hobby and how I utilize it today as a part of my personal and professional life. Hopefully they'll see this and think, "Man, we have to admit this guy so he can be a part of Follies!"
I submitted my application in the second week of November - any thoughts of when I should expect to hear back? I know they mentioned a six-week window, so I'm hoping to hear back this month.
Of the people who got RD interviews, when did you submit your application?
