There are two ways through which he can spend this much money
1. He bought 9×0.50 and 1×0.40=4.9
OR
2. He bought 11×0.40 and 1×0.50=4.9
Given that he bought more $0.50 ones,the right answer is 10 Candies and both options are necessary to answer this question.
