Kiara, your profile is impressive and warrants consideration from most MBA programs on your list. However, the description of your career trajectory and growth progression in the last 11 years is not clear as it should be. For example, top MBA programs will look differently at someone who has been in the same division in the same company for 11 years versus someone who has demonstrated growth in a variety of roles across the same or different set of companies. Depending on which scenario resonates with your case, you should then focus on a more targeted set of schools.

Applying to too many schools can be overwhelming and detract from effective networking and application preparation. A focused approach on 5-6 targeted schools, split evenly between Round 1 and Round 2, is recommended for the best chance of success. The IIM A program would be an excellent fit for you. So if you prioritize India as a post-MBA destination, you can cut many schools from your list while retaining aspirational options such as Kellogg's 1-year MBA, HEC Paris, and MIT Sloan Fellows (just saying!).

With 11+ years of experience, it's likely that some 2-year programs on your list will have reservations about admitting you. If you prefer a two-year program, it's important to clearly communicate your reasons, such as your desire for a more paced MBA experience or your goals to prepare for a new industry/ new job market.

Since you are interested in Schneider and sustainability, I also want to apprise you about another great leadership track which is the Siemens leadership track. They hire from INSEAD and LBS but do check the pipeline for HEC Paris with the career center there. Siemens seeks individuals with experience in the energy and manufacturing industries, and your extensive experience in this domain, will give you an advantage. This program is designed to develop future leaders who can drive the company's sustainability agenda and make a positive impact.

You can check out the Siemens CEO Leadership program for more information: https://new.siemens.com/global/en/compa ... unity.html

Hello Kiara,
Your profile appears to be competitive for admission to the MBA programs listed. You have a strong GMAT score and a high GPA, as well as 11 years of work experience in supply chain management, which is a desirable field for MBA programs. The fact that you have worked for the world’s largest coal-producing company may also make you stand out as a candidate.

Furthermore, your desire to transition to a more innovative and sustainable organization such as Schneider Electric aligns well with the values of many MBA programs. It shows that you have a clear understanding of their career goals and how an MBA can help them achieve those goals.

Additionally, your background in non-profit and government sectors could bring a unique perspective to the classroom and add diversity to the cohort. Lastly, the goal of leading a sustainable supply chain company is ambitious and aligns with the values of many MBA programs.

Overall, your profile appears to be a strong candidate for admission to the MBA programs listed. However, it is important to keep in mind that admission to top MBA programs is highly competitive and involves a holistic evaluation of an applicant's profile, including their essays, letters of recommendation, and extracurricular activities. If you want to have a detailed discussion regarding your profile or the program with our top profile experts, feel free to hop on a call with us. Hey Kiara2023,

You have got some solid experience and test scores which make your overall profile pretty competitive. With 11+ years of experience by the time you pursue your course, you will probably not be doing enough justice to your tenure and experience with the conventional 2 year MBA program. Most of the 2 year MBA pipeline is for early to mid career opportunities and I feel that with such solid experience in supply chain it will be better to shortlist programs that target slightly higher age candidates and thus tend to feed them to mid / high level executive positions.
Talking about your strong desire to be a part of the sustainability functions, most organizations are making their supply chains green due to investor activism and their sustainability commitments. ESG/Climatech/ Sustainability are particularly strong themes in the European markets, even more than the US, thus some good EU schools will probably be really good bets for your future aspirations. Additionally, EU schools tend to have a higher median age than their US counterparts which will make them the perfect fit for your profile. Please don't limit yourself to one organization, there are multiple themes going on such as traditional O&G giants such as Shell, BP pivoting to Renewable Energy (in fact they have reduced their conventional hiring and are more focused on RE), there are boutique consulting firms that focus on green supply chains, multilateral financing organizations that are looking for green skillsets, traditional logistics firms such as Amazon. Thus, you will have a wide variety of options to pursue your sustainability aspirations.
Coming to the schools, LBS, INSEAD, Oxford-Said, IMD, HEC can be really good options.

Since a lot of the US recruiting happens through the summer internship pipeline, there can be some challenges in convincing traditional corporates to recruit you and thus you may end up being limited to Consulting and Big Tech with your experience.

A Data Analyst with 3 years of experience working across three diverse companies within a Tech Conglomerate and worked with CXO’s on a couple of projects. My roles have spanned the Gaming, Influencer Marketing, and Direct-to-Consumer (D2C) wellness brands sectors. Throughout my career, I have contributed to several high-impact projects that have showcased my analytical prowess. Notably, I assessed the repercussions of a game getting banned in our top revenue-generating state, identified loopholes in our existing business data model, and successfully spearheaded the rebuilding process.

Within the company, I have consistently taken the initiative and led various endeavors that have had a significant impact. Furthermore, I have a deep passion for giving back to the community. During my free time, I find joy in teaching children and currently collaborate with the NGO, Robinhood Academy. Additionally, I am actively involved in launching a new NGO alongside my father in the coming months. This organization aims to address important societal issues.

Moreover, I have channeled my compassion towards stray dogs, especially during the challenging times of the pandemic. I have personally taken the initiative to feed, spay, and neuter stray dogs, all while educating people on proper behavior towards our furry friends. Although a long-term plan, I also aspire to establish an animal shelter in the future.

To further enhance my skill set and broaden my horizons, I am pursuing an MBA. I have set my sights on transitioning into the field of consulting within the United States. While I am open to various locations, I hold a preference for Texas or Chicago. Ultimately, my long-term goal is to settle in an industry that aligns with my passion and expertise, which I aim to discover during my tenure in the consulting realm

Hey DroningHangman,

You have got a solid GMAT score and a robust work experience. Having worked across a spectrum of gaming and marketing profiles you will bring some unique perspectives which I am quite positive the admissions committee would value. Additionally, working with CXO would have helped you imbibe an overview of business while helping you deliver value for your organization. Lastly, your ECs are phenomenal which showcase not only empathy but also a desire to make an impact in your community. Overall you should be positioned quite favorably in the coming admission cycle and hence its imperative that you put in effort into the application to make the requisite impact.
In terms of your college shortlist, would encourage you to explore Kellogg in Round 1 with Early Actions to Darden and Fuqua. Ross is also a solid bet. Both Kellogg and Ross will open consulting doors in the Chicago area while Darden and Fuqua will be more geared towards the NYC area, although there is no hard and fast rule as consulting firms are pretty open with the location preferences of their recruits. For Texas there is not better option than Texas McCombs since they are pipeline for all the consulting firms in the Austin, Houston and Dallas areas.
My only advice would be to take a slightly more long term of your career aspirations to form a strong story that tied together. That will also help you shortlist schools that would probably make more sense from a long term perspective.

Hey Sep'24_Applicant,

You have good academics with solid ECs which should be a strong positive for your profile. Your inclination towards pharma / life sciences will be well received by business schools and hence you should have a decent chance. Only area of improvement would be your GMAT score which maybe at or below median for a lot of the good MBA programs, so try to rework on that if time permits for Round 1 applications.
Just one piece of advices, since pharma is a largely extensively regulated industry within the US, the recruitment typically happen through the internship program which wont be a part of the 1 year MBA formats in the US schools. Thus, if US is on top of your list, I would suggest have a look at some good 2 year MBA options for pursuing a career within the pharma space. UK and EU can be good options with schools like Said, HEC Paris, IMD, Imperial opening doors to pharma companies within the UK/EU region.

Hope that helps? Do reach out at info@thembaedge.com if you have any other queries.

Hey SaSr1997,

Not sure if after a masters degree and close to 2 years of professional experience (by the time you leave for university) you should be considering an MIM education. Typically, an MIM degree is recommended for candidates under 2 years of work experience out of undergraduate education, but since you already have a masters it may not be the best way to pursue your career aspirations. Would suggest that you wait another year, work on your profile and GMAT score, and thereafter apply for an MBA.

Education:

B.A. in Communication from a well-recognized institution in India, 2019, with a CGPA of 7.6/10
GRE Score: 311 (rewriting the exam soon)
Work Experience:

Currently working as a Recruitment Marketing Content Manager, with 4.5 years of professional experience, including 2 years focused on core marketing and 2 as a HR generalist and a recruiter.

Specialized in employer branding and talent attraction, achieving a 50% increase in employee satisfaction and a 70% improvement in candidate engagement through creative campaigns and strategic brand messaging.

Skilled in developing and executing branding strategies, managing social media platforms, and ensuring alignment with organizational values to attract top talent.

Strong background in full recruitment cycles, employee engagement, and leveraging data analytics to optimize branding strategies.

Goals:

I aim to pursue an MBA to gain a solid theoretical foundation in marketing and transition into core branding roles within the FMCG sector.

The MBA will provide the platform to showcase my creativity and strategic insight to top global brands, helping me advance my career more rapidly up the corporate ladder.

2) AIESEC VP for a year and a half for the Incoming Global Talent function

Will need more profile details to provide an objective assessment of your profile and programs that would be good fits. Your GRE is on the lower end of the spectrum so it is advisable to have a relook at the score and try for a 325+ score which can prove to be competitive from an application point of view. Typically gaming and internet has a strong presence on the West Coast, so your profile will be suitable for MBA programs from UCLA Anderson, USC Marshall, Foster School of Business etc. But these are just preliminary suggestions, will need further details to figure a good fit.

All the best!

Will need to understand the kind of work you have done as an HR professional, what are your career plans and if they are realistic enough. Further, if there is any particular reason to be incline with the Internet and New Media industry since its a niche industry. Also, the GPA just above the minimum threshold required by most schools (GPA: 3.0) so if thats in fact the case or you are converting your grades into a scale of 4.0. Plus you havent given any info on your undergrad education and your extra curricular.

I've been into recruitment for the major chunk of my work experience, however, over the past 1 year I've been into C&B, employee engagement and HR business partnering(Work as a generalist). I've been into gaming, I'm an ardent gamer myself and seeing the potential growth in the industry, would like to stick to it for the moment. Post MBA, I'd like to head towards marketing wherein I'm working on brand management for games/e-sports companies, aiding them with both game launches and employer branding, something that I've done, as a part and parcel of my job.
Undergrad was in a top tier private institute called Manipal in India, majoring in public relations, which inclines me towards marketing. Yes, I'm converting my GPA from a 10 to a 4.
Extra curriculars don't have a lot to go for, I've volunteered with an organisation and taught students and I was an acting VP for a month and a half at AIESEC.

Looks like an interesting profile since we dont normally see a lot of representation from Human Resource professionals for International MBAs and that too from the gaming space. Would advise against converting GPA, leave it as it is and maybe spend time working on the GRE since we typically look for scores north of 320 for you to have a competitive chance at a good MBA program, Honestly, marketing and branding roles are limited for international students in the United States and most of marketing aspirants eventually end up in more quant and analytics focused role within the marketing domain which basically is using data to get marketing insight. Brand Management is very very limited for international students although PMM (Product Marketing Manager) can be another decent replacement. Since you want to stick to the Gaming industry, try targeting the West Coast schools since most of the large companies such as Zynga, EA etc are located on the West Coast and hence it will be easier from a networking perspective, would advice against the East Coast schools since you will have to put in that much more efforts to crack a role with these companies due to location challenges. UCLA Anderson, USC Marshall, McCombs, Ross, Foster can be good bets for your career aspirations. Not too much gaming presence in the EU so would advice against those schools.

Your profile has a solid mix of good work experience, a good GRE score and decent ECs. The transition from a software developer to a PM in your case should be relatively smooth given the relevant work experience and your strong performance in all your assignments thus far.
Will only recommend you to focus on building a strong application and putting in more work in shortlisting MBA programs that would be the best fit your profile. With a good application strategy in place, you will be positioned quite well for success.

All the best! Do reach out at info@thembaedge.com in case you have any further queries.

Hey MehulJain_,

Interesting to encounter someone with an AI background which happens to be the buzzword lately. In terms of your profile, your academics and undergrad seem good although would caution that the GRE score is below median for most of the schools that you have mentioned in your shortlist. Thus, it wouldnt be a bad idea to think about bumping the GRE score by a couple of points to breach the 325+ range as that would be considered a competitive score.
Your ECs are solid and showcase a flair towards group based engagements which will definitely be a positive from a business school standpoint. You will need to a craft a strong application to show a keen desire to transition to management consulting given your current high impact role in the AI domain, so do spend time on building a strong case around the consulting industry and how it will align with your future goals.

Hope that helps? Do reach out at info@thembaedge.com if you have any other queries. All the best!

Hey TuffN24,

You have a solid GRE score and very good career trajectory. Not sure what's happening with the academics but a 2.76 GPA is below the minimum threshold of 3.0 required for most MBA programs. Incase if you are converting the GPA on a scale of 4.0, please dont do it and leave for the school.
Your career plans align with your prior experience and your school shortlist which is a strong positive. Do remember that AM recruitment for International Students within the US tends to happen on a case by case basis and thus you will face a lot of hurdles convincing your potential employer to hire you. But there have been cases in the past where employers have extended offers to international students with relevant work experience and even sponsored their visas. Just try to keep that fact in mind while working on your application and building your story.

All the best for the upcoming application cycle! Do reach out at info@thembaedge.com if you have any other queries.

Currently working as a Sr Software Engineer, I am involved in too technical oriented work. I don’t see myself continuing this in the long run, so I am looking to pivot to a lesser/non-technical role.

My primary post-MBA goal is to transition into Tech/Strategy Consulting. Among other options that I am considering is Product/ Project Management.
Personally, the major motivation behind going for MBA other than the career transition is to get international exposure and experience.

With a low GPA, below median GMAT and coming from the Engineering background, Booth wont be a good fit for your profile or your career goals. ISB maybe on the fence but will need more details to determine if ISB will make sense for your profile. Would advice you to recalibrate your application strategy and put some work into your school research to determine better fits for your profile. Additionally, make a shortlist of 6-7 schools which will be good fits purely from a robust application strategy point of view to maximize your chances of success.

All the best!

I am a non-core engineering graduate from a NIT. At the time of hopeful admission in 2024 I will have 12 years of experience in my discipline, I have 1 year experience in the private IT sector and 11 years in a maharatna PSU. In addition to the work in my discipline, I have taken up some of the responsibilities of HR in private sector. Working in the PSU..I have implemented and introduced various cost-cutting, productivity enhancement schemes, and was selected among the core members from the company for Next Gen ideas and implementation. Also, I have done a part time ex. mba from an IIT. In a PSU...promotion is slow and takes time to take up leadership or strategic roles. I want to take up more managerial and strategic roles post MBA preferrably in the manufacturing sector. In the long term (10-15 years) I want to be a Director in the manufacturing sector.

You have provided very limited information to give an objective assessment of your profile. Some prelim observations:
- You can add a whole set of other schools to the mix which will do justice to your career aspirations of being a consultant
-You have a strong GPA but will also a need a strong GMAT score to make the cut
-Stanford GBS tends to look favorable on candidates coming from innovation, tech and entrepreneurship, VC background and looking to build career in these avenues and hence may not be the best bet for a career in consulting. HBS will be a solid option though
- Do explore schools like MIT Sloan, Kellogg, Darden, Ross as well

Hey baibhavp,

Transitioning from non-profit to corporate setup can be tricky specially after 7 years of work experience, thus would recommend targeting 2 year MBA formats that can aid in your transition through an internship. Your ST goals align pretty well with your non-profit experience since there are skills and experiences that would be valuable from an impact perspective. The only challenge is that the number of positions in impact consulting would be limited and since ESG is still in its nascent stages you would need to have a slightly broader career plan as a fall back. On the domestic side, ISB and IIMs are decent choices since the number of programs are fairly limited, however on the international front you can explore the US schools as well for consulting positions. MBA programs like Yale SOM, Haas MBA, Kellogg can be good bets in the US market. On the EU front Oxford Said, INSEAD, IMD will be good bets given their focus on impact albeit they are all 1 year programs and hence the internship component will be missing which can make the job hunt far more tedious.
Nonetheless, would strong advocate a strong GMAT score to aid your transition as that will deliver a strong impression on your candidacy.

Hope the inputs help? In case you have any further queries, feel free to reach out to info@thembaedge.com

I worked for a MNC doing worldwide sales remotely for 20 out of my 25 months of work experience.

I wish to get into consulting and the Big 3, preferably in Canada (as PR is easier and I am open to learning more).
I just wanted to ascertain my chances of getting into the top colleges (I don't know yet if IVEY's 1-year MBA would almost guarantee PR there; if it does, then it is my first preference).

Hey Abhishek,

Thank you for sharing your profile!

Your GMAT score is solid although you maybe slightly early with just 25 months total work ex (assuming 36months by the time you start your program). We have seen good success with early career candidates who have strong GMAT scores and have put in good applications, so no harm in giving the schools a shot. You haven't provided enough information on your work ex so will be difficult to comment on the nature and quality of your role given that it is pure WFH format.
In terms of school selection, ISB is a good option along with the Rotman and Ivey both of which are solid Canadian MBAs and both of them are feeders into Consulting firms across Canada. Don't link your MBA to your PR as both are entirely different processes, you are eligible to apply for your Canadian PR in most cases after you have work experience in Canada which can be obtained through the Post-graduation work permit which can subsequently be used to apply for a PR. Since there is no guarantee of a PR and its more process oriented, both Rotman and Ivey will give you a fair shot at Canadian work ex and thereafter a PR. Do keep in mind that with the 1 year format in case of Ivey, there wont be an internship which at times becomes important for a career pivot.

Hope that helps? Do feel free to reach out at info@thembaedge.com if you need any other clarity.

Thanks a ton for such an insightful review. To add to my profile, my sales job was at a company named TactQ, which provides B2B contacts to businesses worldwide, and I was connecting with decision makers like CEOs, CTOs, and other marketing and sales professionals to understand their need for direct contacts from any target industry.

By the end of March 2024, my total work experience would be 27 months only, as I wish to shift into consulting as soon as possible. If it isn’t good, then how many months of experience shall I have? (My friend recently joined ISB early admission and will start at CO24, so I thought I might too.)

According to your insights, I believe I will target Rotman over ISB while still having it on the table.

So how many years of experience should I collect first before joining any of them? And also, I just have a 3-year BCOM (H) on me, so will that be valid for Rotman or Ivey?

This would summarize all my queries for the MBA.

Thank you again for the earlier insights. I really appreciate that.

You role sounds like a high impact one with access to senior leadership and keep decision making which can be a strong positive from an application point of view, would advise to be at it and even look at expanding your responsibilities to get some international and leadership focused experience. In terms of the schools, see with 27months ISB should be a fair shot since they recruit candidates across a wide spectrum of work experience and 720 should be a fairly respectable score. For the Canadian schools i.e. Rotman and Ivey, you maybe slightly on the lower side on the work ex front so would suggest that you wait a year and work on enhancing your profile to have a stronger chance at an admit. Would suggest that 3-6 years is the optimum age range from an application point of view.
Most schools have been working with candidates who have 3 years of undergrad education and hence that shouldn't be a an area of concern.

I'm really glad for your insights into my profile, and as my concerns are sorted, I believe I will gather another year of experience and opt for Rotman and Ivey next year. I will look up some recommendations for what exactly would make my profile better and also give my profile some relevance to consulting, which may help in the future.
I'm really delighted that you replied and took these concerns off my chest.

Glad my inputs could help! Some aspects to improve your profile
- Look for some international experience (spend sometime in your HQ)
- Take on projects where you will be managing a small team (will important for your career growth as well)
- Focus on building your ECs (these are overlooked by some of the most capable applicants)
- If you can bump your GMAT, give it a shot (higher GMAT also translates into more financial aid)
- For consulting try to focus on building your problem solving skills, explore some certifications that maybe relevant for your desired area of specialization within consulting

Yes, as I now have one more year, I will give the GMAT again, targeting a 740+, so I can get some crucial financial aid. I will also work on my profile in and out of the job, working on all the mentioned inputs, and hopefully by the start of my application next year, I will connect here with a delight.
Thanks a ton

After 3 years in the tech industry (4 at the time of intake), I am looking to move into a more product centric role that would give me more decision making power and shape the way a product is designed and approached. In the long run, after I have gained some on ground management experience, I would like to join the entrepreneurial world and work towards women empowerment.

Hey Ray007,

Will need more details regarding your work experience and your GMAT score to make an objective assessment of your profile at its fit with the list of business schools that you have put. Schools are spread out geographically and cater to different segments, hence would recommend putting in more research into the school shortlist and assigning a greater weightage to those that will do align with your background and your career aspirations. Some schools can be ambitious regardless of your profile and your GMAT score given the sheer competition to get into those programs and hence have a more rounded list.

Hope that answers your queries, do reach out at info@thembaedge.com if you have any further doubts.
