Editor Y: This is a good photograph: the composition is attractive, especially in the way the image is blurred by smoke in one corner.
Editor Z: It's very pretty, but it's a bad photograph. It doesn't make a statement; there's no obvious reason for the smoke to be there.

The editors' dialogue provides the most support for the claim that they disagree with each other about whether

(A) a photograph's composition should be related to a statement that it makes

(B) a photograph that is not attractive can still be a good photograph

(C) a photograph that makes no statement can still be attractive

(D) attractiveness by itself can make a photograph a good photograph

(E) attractive composition and prettiness are the same feature

are pretty and attractiveness the same..?

I assumed so and got this correct.POE also works for this question.

A - Y,Z both don't tell this.
B - Y,Z are both telling that the photograph is attractive. Not cool.
C - Z implies this but Y doesn't go against this.So out.
D - Y says attractive hence good.Z says pretty(attractive) but bad.Hold
E - Nobody is arguing about this.

The question stem asks "The editors' dialogue provides the most support for the claim that they disagree with each other about whether"

In other words, "Which of the following would the editors disagree on?"

(A) a photograph's composition should be related to a statement that it makes
Neither editor mentions the relationship between composition and the statement it makes.
ELIMINATE A

(B) a photograph that is not attractive can still be a good photograph
We know that Editor Z would say that an attractive photograph can be a bad photograph, BUT there's nothing to suggest that the editor believes a photograph that is not attractive can still be a good photograph.
Also, we have no idea how Editor Y feels about this statement.
ELIMINATE B

(C) a photograph that makes no statement can still be attractive
Editor Z would agree with this, BUT there's nothing in the passage that suggests Editor Y would disagree with this.
ELIMINATE C

(D) attractiveness by itself can make a photograph a good photograph
Editor Y finds the photo attractive AND good.
Editor Z finds the photo attractive AND bad.
So, the editors definitely disagree about whether attractiveness by itself can make a photograph a good photograph
KEEP D

(E) attractive composition and prettiness are the same feature[/quote]
Editor Y MIGHT agree with this, BUT there's no reason to believe Editor Z would disagree with this.
ELIMINATE E

Answer: D

Cheers,
Brent
