Let the number be \(x\).
\(8*\frac{1}{3}x = 1 + 5*\frac{1}{2}x\)
\(\frac{8}{3}x = \frac{5}{2}x + 1\)
\(\frac{8}{3} x - \frac{5}{2}x = 1\)
\(\frac{16x - 15x}{6} = 1\)
\(\frac{1x}{6} = 1\)
\(x = 6\). Answer B

We are given that eight times one-third of a number is one greater than five times one-half of that number. If we let x = the number, we have:
8(1/3)x = 1 + 5(1/2)x
Multiplying the equation by 6, we have:
16x = 6 + 15x
x = 6
Answer: B
