Guys,
I am really confused right now.

GOT 700 In GMAT. Graduated in 2020.
Had a decent internship experience and a full-time job (about 5 months now)

Still got rejected.
Last time I checked you can't apply again in further rounds.

Can I do anything about it?

Yes, you can't apply for ESSEC 2021 intake now. But you can try your luck in other colleges, might be in lower ranking, but yes you can apply for them.
Plus, can you share your overall profile?

Well, if re-applying again isn't allowed, you might want to apply to other universities. And rejection is possible as a result of a variety of factors- such as your essays, SOP, LORs, or simply relative competition etc

yashikaaggarwal, Here's my profile

Demography: 21 years, Male Indian
Education- B.tech (CSE), LNMIIT JAIPUR - CGPA OF 5.6
GMAT 700 (150 V34)

Work Ex
Internship - In Marketing Field (Sums up to 8 months in 3 internships)
Founder for 1.5 yrs - Local Startup
Full time - Marketing Executive (From July 2020 at GeeksforGeeks)

Extra Stuff
Various Marketing certifications from Coursera
Highly involved in Social Work
Database Head of training and placement cell
Marketing head of college fests

Future goal
Head of marketing at top global brands

I am actually confused about the colleges. Here's my perspective. Let me know your thoughts on this:

France: Having been rejected from the top 3 colleges in France (HEC,ESCP,ESSEC), I am not eager to go for Edhec or Skema. As my competition would be from people of the top 3 colleges, I believe it's better to be a part of a top college (country-wise) rather than going for a 4th or 5th ranked college.

Spain - IE business school is a one year program, hence a big no. Also, Spain's economy and job prospects fall under a low category. Hence I am not thinking to apply to colleges across Spain.

Germany - Now, Germany I believe is a great opportunity. Low fees, great education, and good job prospects make this a strong contender. But colleges such as WHU and HHL only select students with a business degree (BBA/BCOM). Hence, my only remaining options are ESMT Berlin or frankfurt.

Are there any other colleges that I am missing out? Kindly help.

Hi!

I'm currently facing a similar issue. I have gotten rejects from HEC, ESSEC and ESCP in the last week. My top four universities included these three and London Business School. Let me give a brief insight into my profile.

23 Years Old, Indian, Male.
GMAT: 730
Education: BBA in Sports Management, Bharathiar University - GPA: 6.93 (after 4 semesters)

Work Exp:
4 internships spread across 10 months.
One was around Social Media Marketing at a big sports media agency, the others were smaller companies. Roles were mostly Marketing and Operations.

Extra Curriculars:

1. Represented the UAE Under-19 National Cricket team in 2014
2. Vice Sports Captain of the School
3. Formed and headed the marketing committee of the first-ever sports fest organized by my college
4. Also head of the Registrations Committee in the same
5. Part of the Music Club in School
6. Learnt Indian Classical Music for four years
7. Earned Yellow Junior Belt in Taekwondo
8. Represented my school in an international level exam in Delhi

Extra facts:

Grew up in Nigeria, UAE, and India. Visited over 10 more countries as part of sports tours or vacations.

Goals:
To work in a marketing role at a company like Nike. Or in the Sports Business Group at Deloitte.

Not really sure as to why the rejections have come my way. As it stands now, I am looking at a few business schools which I think are a level below these four. I don't mind the course being one year long, as long as it lets me specialize in a field.
IE Business School, Stockholm School of Economics, Bocconi University, University of St Gallen, INSEAD, WHU, London School of Economics, Warwick University.

I have also considered schools outside Europe like NUS Business School and Cornell University. Only considering Cornell because it is a STEM course, which really eases out the work permits after my studies.

Do let me know if any of you have some opinion, as to whether I should look at any other schools or I should be able to secure a place in one of these. So far, I truly believed that I had a fair shot at ESSEC and ESCP, and now I still believe I have a fair shot at all these. If I am wrong, do point it out. Any feedback is appreciated.

Hi Hisid123,

Apart from your GPA, I don't see anything which may hamper your application chances.

You can try to improve on your essays, talk more about the lessons you learnt from your startup, your internships and your work exp. Basically, synthesizing a coherent story on Marketing. I don't see why you shouldn't get an admit if you follow this.

Also, I know an Engg graduate who had 5.5 CGPA, who got in ESCP and secured a 50% scholarship.

UK and Canadian schools require a high GPA. ESMT MiM is good for entrepreneurship, from what I have heard.

All the best!

Hi Divyendu,

I'm sorry man!

I see you have a very unique profile. Sports management is definitely very niche.

Before hearing of your rejection, I would have said you had a good shot at ESSEC and ESCP, because they have specialisations dedicated to your field.

NUS would suit your profile better. A coherent story around your passion for sports management would better your chances at gaining that admit.

All the best.

Hey! I think you should rethink your decision to not apply to Spain. I agree that the job prospects are low but schools like ESADE and IE have a great reputation across Europe and they have always got more than 60% of their students taking jobs outside Spain. And they do have a great employment rate as well.

Thank you guys for putting up your Respective profile here. and the guys who followed up with their help.
2 cents from me, I will say to mark deadlines of colleges in your calendar and briefly think about your college application now. Submitting same application could be of high risk so the only changes one can make in their profile is from Essays, LOR and CV. So do try to make necessary changes in them.
And if you guys are still reluctant on your college choice selection. Try to drop a link in MIM profile evaluation forum, requesting consultants to help you out in that area.

The MSc in Management + CEMS MIM suits your profile. You'll spend a sem each at CEMS schools, considering your GMAT score, you can get your preferred school, mostly. Plus access to alumni network at these schools would be a plus. GMAT is recommended for this programme, but with 730 GMAT, I think you have a good shot.

I had my interview yesterday, and honestly it felt less like an interview and more like a conversation. The panel members really just want to know your motivation. My panelists were very thorough with my Letter of Motovation and Essays, so I would suggest give them a read before sitting for the interview. As for the questions, they were very profile centric. Nothing to overthink though.

On a separate note, anybody has any sort of idea about the rejection rate post interview?

Thank you for sharing your experience, Deepak!
That is really helpful.

I heard from my consultant that about 60-70% of those interviewed get admits. But, the numbers might change when we factor in the increase in applications to business schools, this year. Hope this helps.

Just passed my interview. I found the interview extremely different from anything I've done. For me it was a real personality and motivation test and they clearly tested my ability to think on my feet and scrutinized my profile more than thoroughly. For those who know what I'm talking about, it was like the interview they give to prépa students which integrate ESSEC after two years of "classe préparatoire". They asked me if I was anxious, they asked me about the origins of my street address (thankfully, I knew it was the name of some Napoleonic general) as well as attempted to dismiss my motivation for ESSEC altogether suggesting that I might be a better fit for a politics masters etc. Overall, be ready for anything they might throw at you.

Disclaimer: I have a French background so that might have played in their interview style so it might have been vastly different for others

Anyone from India who can share their interview experience?
Hello,
I had my interview on 18th from Singapore. The panel just had a friendly conversation related to profile and CV. I suppose questions depend heavily on specifics from CV and essays and I suggest to share your experience and learning with them.
Goodluck!
