total in marketing are 36 and if operation has x then finance will have 2x

so 36 + 2x = 120 so x=28

Marketing: 36
Operations: 28
Finance: 56

if finance lay off is y then marketing is 2y and operations is y/2 so total lay off is

y + 2y + y/2 = 28
y = 8

Operations is : 28 - y/2 = 28-4=24
Finance is : 56 - y = 56 - 8 = 48
Marketing is: 36- 2y = 36- 16 = 20

Total employees = 120
30% in Marketing = 0.3 × 120 = 36
Remaining = 120 - 36 = 84 employees in Finance and Operations.
Finance has twice as many employees as Operations. So, Operations: 28 employees & Finance: 56 employees

Now, 28 employees are laid off:
Finance layoffs = F; Marketing layoffs = 2F ; Operations layoffs = F/2
Total layoffs: 2F + F + F/2 = 28 --> F = 8

So Marketing lays off are 16, finance lays-offs are 8 and Operations lays off 4

Final employee counts after layoffs:

Finance: 56 - 8 = 48

Operations: 28 - 4 = 24

Answer: Finance 48, Operations 24

Total number of employees equal to 120, as given in the question marketing team has 36 employees finance as 2x and operation has x so adding all of them gives X equal to 28

This gives us finance employees equal to 56 and operation employees equal to 28

28 employees were laid of so if we take finances X then marketing would be 2x and operation would be x/2

Solving the situation so if gives X equal to 8 and finance employees late of is equal to 8 and operations and price rate of equal to 4

Subtracting gives us finance total employees equal to 48 and operations total Operations employees to 24

Finance : 48 ; Operations = 24
Since 30% are from marketing initially,
no. of people in marketing = 36
No. of people in finance = 56 as it was twice the no. of people in operations.
No of people in Operations = 28

Let , x = no of people laid of in finance.
hence ,
36- 2*x + 56 - x + 28 - (x/2) = 120 - (7x/2) = 92
x= 8

Hence , currently finance has = 56 - 8 = 48 people
operations has = 28 - 4 = 24 people;

Total employees initially = 120
Marketing (M) = 30% of 120 = 36
Given that employees in Finance (F) = twice of employees in operations (O)
O= 28
F=56

Moving Ahead, lets represent number of people laid off from marketing, finance and operations as M',F' and O', then as per conditions given,

M'+F'+O' = 28, also M'=2F' and O'=F'/2,

using both equations, M'=16, F'=8 and O'=4

Hence Total number of employees post lay-offs
Finance= 56-8 = 48
Operations = 28-4= 24

Step 1: Initial employee counts
  • Total employees: 120
  • Marketing: 30% of 120 = 36
  • Remaining: 120 − 36 = 84, split between Finance and Operations
  • Given: Finance = 2 × Operations
    • Let Operations = O, then Finance = 2O, so O + 2O = 843O = 84O = 28, so F = 56
Initial department sizes:
  • Marketing: 36
  • Finance: 56
  • Operations: 28

Step 2: Layoffs
Total layoffs = 28
  • Marketing loses twice as many as Finance
  • Operations loses half as many as Finance
Let Finance layoffs = f
→ Marketing layoffs = 2f
→ Operations layoffs = 0.5f
Sum: f + 2f + 0.5f = 283.5f = 28f = 8
So:
  • Finance layoffs: 8
  • Marketing: 2·8 = 16
  • Operations: 0.5·8 = 4

Step 3: Post-layoff counts
  • Finance: 56 − 8 = 48
  • Operations: 28 − 4 = 24

Final selections:
Finance48
Operations24

No. of employees in each department=
Marketing= 30% = 36
Finance = 2 * Operations.
Solving: \( 36 + 2x + x = 120, x= 28\)
Finance = 56, Operations = 28
Now, calculating for layoffs,
2F + F + 0.5F= 28 (F=finance)
F= 8
= 8 laid of in finance, 4 in operations
56-8= 48, 28-4=24

At the end of the year, a company had exactly 120 employees working in three departments: Marketing, Finance, and Operations, with each employee working in exactly one of the three departments.

Exactly 30% of these employees were in the Marketing department.
Of the remaining employees, the number in Finance was twice the number in Operations.

At the beginning of the next year, the company decided to lay off a total of 28 employees from these three departments, with twice as many laid off from Marketing as from Finance, and half as many from Operations as from Finance.

Select for Finance and Operations the number of employees who work in the Finance and Operations departments, respectively, after the layoffs. Make only two selections, one in each column.

According to the data the total 120 can be divided into 3 groups. (M,F,O)

So based on the data M=36, F=56 and O=28.

As per the lay off incase o ppl we laid in O, 2o in F, and 4o in M. As per the data. From this o = 4.

In F 8 were layed off. So final stats are F=48,O=24,M=20

Hence IMO
Finance = 48
Operations = 24

Select for Finance and Operations the number of employees who work in the Finance and Operations departments, respectively, after the layoffs. Make only two selections, one in each column.
Let the number of employees in marketing, finance and operations be denoted as M, F, Op respectively.

Given that M+ F + Op = 120

Exactly 30% belong to marketing dept = 30%*(120) = 36

120 - 36 = 84 = F + Op

F = 2*Op

Hence, 3*Op = 84 . Thus, Op = 28 and F = 2*Op = 2*28 = 56.

M+ F + Op = 120 = 36 + 56+28

given that 28 employees of the 120 were layoff. The layoff ratio between Marketing: Finance : Operations = 4x : 2x: x

28 = 4x+2x+x

28 = 7x

x =4

The layoff ratio between Marketing: Finance : Operations = 4x : 2x: x = 16: 8: 4

Remaining employees M: F : Op = (36-16) : (56-8) = (28-4) = 20 : 48 : 24

Hence, the number of Finance and Operations employees post layoffs is 48 and 24 respectively.

Let's talk about the employees before the layoffs:

So we start with 120 as the total # of employees

M+F+O=120

30% of total (120) are in M, so M=36
Of the remaining (120-36=84), Finance has 2x and Operations has x employees
  • 3x=84 ----> x=28
So, we can say that M=36, F=56, and O=28

Let's talk about layoffs now:

Out of the 28 people who were laid off:
  • y were from F
  • 2y were from M
  • \(\frac{y}{2}\) were from O

y+2y+\(\frac{y}{2}\) = 28

Solving for y, we get y=8

Total # of layoffs per departments:
  • F = y = 8
  • M = 2y = 16
  • O = \(\frac{y}{2}\) = 4

# of people remaining in the company after layoffs = (# before layoff) - (# of layoff)

For F, we get 56-8=48
For O, we get 28-4=24

Let M be in Marketing, F be in Finance and O be in operations.
M+F+O = 120
M = 30% of 120 = 36
2*O + O = 70% of 120
Therefore, O = 28 and F = 2 * O = 56

Let number of layoff employees in Finance = x
Then equation of layoff => 2*x + x + x/2 = 28
Therefore, x = 8

Then the number of employees remaining in Operations = 28 - 4(*because of x/2*) = 24
and number of employees remaining in Finance = 56 - 8 = 48

Total no of employees at the end of year = 120

Total no. of Marketing Employees = 30% of 120= 30/100*120= 36

Each employee is working in any one of Finance(x), Marketing(y) & Operations(z)
x+y+z=120
y=36
x+z=84
Now as per 2nd statement x=2z 3z=84, z=28, x=56

Finance= 56
Operations= 28

Lay off people = 28 at start of year
Lets no of finance people laid off be 'a'

Marketing people laid off=2a
Operations people laid off=a/2
Total a+2a+a/2=28
solving a=8

Thus, laid of Finance people= 8, operations=4

People in Finance dept after laying off = 56-8=48
People in operations dept after lay off= 28-4=24
