The penalty for a missed question is a complex calculation that only one person in the world understands and that’s Ian Stewart. For the rest of us, the rule is that one missed question equals to about 3 percentile points. Sometimes that may not have any impact at all on your score but sometimes it may, especially in compact bands.

Another reason to consider taking the At-Home GRE as an alternative to the GMAT Online: you can earn a perfect 170 GRE score with up to 1 question wrong on Quant (39/40 = 97.5% correct), and with up to 3 questions wrong on Verbal (37/40 = 92.5% correct).

However, to earn a perfect 800 on the GMAT you need to answer all 58 counted questions correctly (30 on Verbal and 28 on Quant)--even just one counted question wrong on Verbal can drop you from V51 to V48, for example.

But GMAT is a much tougher exam, the penalty is more, i gave a mock last week and got a Q49 with 4 questions incorrect, i should have got a Q50 with this number until i realized that the last question went unanswered and i guess the penalty was equal to 3 incorrect questions, leading to Q49. I just read a few blogs related to the conversion of GMAT to GRE scores and found that my GMAT 690 is equal to GRE 326 which is considered a safe score in GRE.

bb tbh you are right, from the experience I have with GMAT, it is really difficult to predict the algo of the test and the tests surprises in many ways.

Hello everyone,

I gave my online GMAT on 26th August 9:45 am IST and just received my score report and got a 710(Q48 V39 IR 7)

I have two questions for all the experts here:

Q1) My score in Sigma X mocks (Egmat) were ranging from 670-710 with 710 being the latest and my scores in Official mocks were ranging from 650-730 (650 was two weeks before actual exam and only reason was that I was really anxious and ended up doing many silly mistakes in easy questions and my score in test 6 that I took four days before actual exam was 690

So should I reattempt and try to get a better score in another 15-16 days?

Q2) How do institutes look at online GMAT? For colleges is this as authentic as in center GMAT?

Yes, I took my first GMAT at the test center. Luckily test center option is available in Istanbul.
I took online GMAT 2 days ago.
Actually, I had scheduled another GMAT for next week in test center, as a back-up plan, so maybe I can give it another try for 10 to 20 points.

Yes, I took my first GMAT at the test center. Luckily test center option is available in Istanbul.

I am unable to book my GMAT Online. Facing issue while registering the same. Do not know whether the issue is with the card or MBA.com

I also have other queries
1. Is there any GMAT cancellation fee for online GMAT.
2. I shared the poor experience I had at the Test Centre but I did not receive any reply from MBA.com
3. Is there any better way to reach customer care?
4. GMAT Online should have costed 200$ in India but it's adding 36$ as tax so the fee becomes almost equal to centre based test which is 250$.

Hey jatinmittal91,

For your first question, the GMAT cancellation / rescheduling fee(s) has been waived off for now for both offline and online exams.
(Many times mentioned and confirmed in previous posts as well.)

For your fourth question, as per my understanding, for the offline exam the amount $250 is tax free as the Govt of India has not specifically levied any tax on it. But for the online exam of this kind, no such rule is defined. Hence GMAC needs to charge and pay the government the tax amount, 18% in this case.
But these are just rules of the land, about which nothing me, you or even the GMAC can do. :)
Again this tax percent/amount differs country to country.

For the second and third question, if no response received on one channel, in this case email, you can try using other channels, maybe like contacting through telephonic support. That could help clearing things up faster for you.
I would also suggest you to share your experience on the GMAT Club forum itself. This could actually help other test takers as well in taking an informed decision about the center :)

Hi,
I have a doubt here with using a physical whiteboard. Should I place the whiteboard on the same desk as I place my laptop or can I place it on my lap and work out questions? Are proctors strict on this aspect ?

may i appear GMAT online interim test by 14 inches hp laptop(model 14s 3006tu)?Is there any problem with this size of laptop? Does it hamper GMAT score?
Also if web cam quality is not good ,can i mount external web cab on laptop

GMAT score has got nothing to do with the size of the laptop... And yes, you can mount an external camera if need be..

Does it mean that I can not cancel my scores? Im very stressed about it. So if I retake my trst at Test center later when they are open, is this score will also be available for schools along my new test. This is very frustrating.

You are correct that you cannot cancel your GMAT Online score--however, GMAC has made up for this by doing us the favor of not including GMAT Online scores on the regular Test Taker Score Report, which is now sometimes requested by B-schools (and which also indicates cancellations), which effectively means that b-school adcoms will only see our GMAT Online scores if we want them to.

Has anyone considered tasking GRE at Home instead of GMAT? I'm leaning towards GRE due to the accessibility issue of GMAT and no retakes for Online exam.

Would M7 adcoms prefer GRE or GMAT?

Hi,
has anyone faced the issue similar to that I'm describing below?

I wrote my GMAT online on august 19, and unfortunately covered my mouth with my palm multiple times during the test. Proctor interrupted me only once, when I moved my head, so that my eyes became unseen by the webcam. Otherwise, there was not communication, and the test ran smooth.
After 7 business days, when no score came, I wrote to GMAC Customer care and then again with details on covering part of my face, proctors changing during the exam, etc. And guess what came to my email? The message saying "Congratulations on completing the GMAT™ Online exam. All your hard work and commitment has brought you another step closer to your goals. Great job!

And now you might be wondering, what’s next? We’ve put together the answer to a few key questions you might want to know. Please take a moment to read and prepare for your next step. [...]"

And right after, an email with the link to the qualtrics survey about the GMAT online experience.

I assume both emails must have come right after I sat the actual exam!?
If proctors did not interrupt me the 2nd time, but I actually covered part of my face, do you think it's GMAC's fault?

Any ideas on tackling the problem? They do not reply to my emails.

P.S. Sorry for an unstructured message, I feel depressed that the situation is ruining my application in the first round (which is critical to me)

Hi,

I wrote the exam not on corporate, but on a computer with unlicensed Windiws. It passed the system test, and the exam went smooth (though the after-exam experience was awful).

You should check with your corporate employer whether they permit personal use.
