I suspected that GMAC may do something unfriendly like that but I thought for sure they would not raise the price and only make rescheduling possible after the price hike goes into effect but was I wrong.

Between Sloan removing GMAT requirement and GMAC making it more unfriendly it is a buzzard situation.

mateuslmachado
I have just called them and asked to speak with a supervisor. She confirmed me that the scheduling will only be possible after Sep 23rd.

bb
That's funny  The agent misunderstood because otherwise, that either means you can't take GMAT online again if you took it pre-Sept 23 OR that you can take it twice after Sept 23 both of which are wrong.

Have you tried scheduling a retake and not able to? Is that why you contacted the agent?

mateuslmachado
I was checking with Pearson agent if it is already possible to schedule a retake. He told me that retakes are only for exams schedule after Sep 23rd. Very wired.

"Please be informed that effective Sep 23, 2020 you will be entitled for 8 life time attempts including both the exam modes with a maximum of 2 attempts for online exams and 6 (if 2 attempts were for online mode) for test center mode with 5 attempts in a rolling 12 months period. You can also schedule 2 exams with a gap of 16 days.
Sunny at 12:02, Sep 18:
Please be informed that for any online exam scheduled before Sep 23, 2020, you will not be able to retake the exam.
Sunny at 12:03, Sep 18:
In such a case, you can retake the exam only if you had faced any technical issues during the exam.

Sunny at 12:10, Sep 18:
Please be informed that as per the recent update, you can retake the online exam only if the original exam has been scheduled starting Sep 23, 2020."

To be honest, I understand increasing the price but they should have kept the rescheduling and canceling fees 0. The situation is still volatile. There might be some issues with the things in which case you would need the exam to be rescheduled.

At this point, the test center exam is looking a lot more enticing.

Are you doubting GMAC's capacity to make things difficult? Now that Online has been equalized to test center prices, I don't see any valid reason for not giving a break or ESR but its just GMAC being scummy.

Agreed. The price going back is not the biggest issue. Change fees are OK too but would have been nice to have a heads up about them. Another part that’s hypocritical frankly is that one can be waiting a long time for a proctor... it would be equally fair to provide on time tests if they choose to charge change fees.

I personally think ESR is a joke. That’s me of course and I would not pay for it. But GMAC uses a temporary system for gmat online and they can’t technically offer it... not without some development.

bb Will this new change also impact the reschedule fees if you choose to take the test in the center?

I remember seeing on their website that there is no fee charged for rescheduling the exam in the center.

Hi.
I gave my online GMAT attempt in the last week of April 2020. This was the time when physical whiteboard facility wasn't available. However, once physical whiteboard was allowed, they sent me an email stating i can retake it once again. I haven't taken that retest yet. However, considering the new facility of one retest going to be available from Sep 23, I am confused about the number of online retakes available for me. Is it going to be 2 or just 1?

Pls reply. Thank you.

You should doublecheck the following. There was a specific date by which testtakers in your position had to retake the test, which appears to have passed. So you may not be eligible for that particular retake, but you are eligible for the second and final retake from Sept 23.

Why is this so hard to count?
You can take the GMAT 5 times per 12-month period and 8 times in the lifetime.
GMAT online attempts BEFORE Sept 23 do not count towards those limits.

This explanation should cover ALL cases, all questions, and all situations.

I received that same response. Is your interpretation that the "rolling 12 months period" can include 1 online exam post September 23 PLUS 5 in person - for a total of 6 in 12 month period?? Spoke to customer support on phone and in message and each gave conflicting answers.

Agree with bb here. It is quite clear in my opinion.

Umm... I don't think so that is the situation because I just tried to go to the online exam appointment portal which is still allowing me to book a date by paying the fees.
Hence I am still confused about how many online exam attempts I will be allowed post 23rd september. :?

You may be able to book a test, but it may be cancelled when they discover your second attempt, even after you have taken it. And your fees may not be refunded. You should check with CS.

I think it is pretty simple. The announcement said that everyone will be able to retake the GMAT once after 23 of September. You will be able to retake it once. You will only have 1 retake attempt even if that’s your online whiteboard retake. That’s how I think it will play out.

PS. I do not believe there was a date indicated by which one had to retake the GMAT if they took it pre-physical whiteboard. If the system allows you to schedule a test, you can schedule it and there should not be an issue with the cancellation or a payment.

Even my first attempt was before the approval of physical whiteboard and got a retake option post approval. Our pre-physical whiteboard retake option is valid till December 31st. I am sure, you would have received an email with subject "Option to retest for the GMAT Online exam extended to December 31st" on 23th July. But I am not sure whether we will be offered one more retake option after 23rd Sep. Attaching the snap for your reference.

PS: This is for the guys who attempted with online whiteboard and got a retake with physical whiteboard. Others please don't get confused.

The attachment confirms that the earlier deadline to retest for those who took the online test with only the electronic whiteboard has been extended through to Dec. 31. There was indeed an earlier deadline contrary to a post above.

Yes. Exactly. Even i got the same mail stating the retesting facility is extended till dec 31st. At that time, retesting for all wasn't available. Hence the confusion to the number of attempts.

Is it? I really doubt so because I didnt get any news from GMAC regarding the same, neither saw it anywhere on my dashboard or GMAC website. Its pretty weird how GMAC people aren't clear about certain things.
