A quick question:

I did my undergrad from a top 20 institute in India where GPA is on a scale of 10.0 and isn't relative. I topped my class with a GPA of 9.08. How will HBS compare this with people on a 4.0 scale? I know they ask us not to convert anything but was wondering how they do it.

Will it be 4.0 since I was the topper?
or
Will it be 3.6 (~4*9.08/10)?

I mentioned my rank in the app.
As they mention frequently on their website, the adcom is very familiar with different ranking systems and know that a 3.9 at an Ivy League is not the same as a 3.9 from an unranked school. In that respect, I am sure they will consider both your school rank and your class rank alongside your GPA. I feel you have nothing to worry about.

A quick question:

One week from today, the first wave of invitations will go out via email! If you read the director's blog from previous years, in general about 750 interview invitations go out on the first notification date and about 100 go out on the second notification date.

I know that the order in which invitations go out doesn't mean anything, but simply based on the numbers, by this time next week we'll all have a much better idea of what our future at Harvard 2013 will be..

Ya.. You can almost hear a pin drop... So anybody wants to speculate on what proportion of the invites will go out day after tomorrow.. My guess is that it will be closer to 75%....

You will get an email from them - most likely around 12 PM ET. 17th is when most interview invites should go out, extrapolating from last year's data. On 24th, some more people will be invited to interview, and all others will either get waitlisted for Round 2, or will be declined.

I am not sure though if this timeline holds for 2+2. I am a regular MBA applicant.

Hi guys,

This might help to take the tension off the interview invites going out tomorrow (all the best guys!). i took my GMAT last month and i got a border score of 700 however i gawked my IR section and got a measly score of 3 (25th percentile), is this enough reason to retake the GMAT? i know a lot of schools have indicated that they wont be taking a very critical look at IR this year but i'm slightly worried this might have a negative impact. What do you think?

Hi guys,

To some extent, you answer your own question. Most schools aren't looking at IR this year until a better, more standardized curve is established. Will having a 3 affect you? Mostly not, but its there on your score report so the adcom can read it. Having said that, the adcom also realizes that this is a new questions type and hence you may not be prepared enough.

To address this, they would re inforce their belief by looking at your quant score, which to be honest is OK - if it was 50/51, it would have done you much better especially in this context. Overall, Harvard (you are posting on this thread so I am assuming your interest in applying) has an average GMAT score of 730. So across two main factors: 'lower' quant - its not low at all otherwise, but if someone were to look at IR score and then this, it doesn't help, and 2) a GMAT score lower than Harvard's GMAT - you may wish to reconsider taking the exam anyways.

However, please take this with a pinch of salt - a 700 is a good score any day, and you should go ahead and apply if you feel this adequately demonstrates your academic potential. After all, you have those 800 words and your resume to impress the adcom with as well :)

Being based in Europe 6 hours ahead of Boston, I will only know if I get an invite tomorrow at around 6pm local time... It makes it for a really long day tomorrow!

For us in India, 12 PM in Boston is 9:30 PM! I can't even imagine the anxiousness of Japanese applicants! :)
