On the website it still stays application submitted. where are you looking for the application status??

Click on your application, then "Open Application" then something like "New Message"

"Deferred for further consideration"

Also did anyone else's email say, "2+2 Decision Available Online" if you were NOT 2 + 2?

@ganteymula, it's good news - you're on the waitlist and you will be up for getting an interview invite again with the Round 2 cycle in late Jan./early Feb. Many people in your shoes end up getting in - it's a drawn-out process but it could happen! We see it every year. You're totally still in the running. But it also means you'll need to move ahead w/ Round 2 apps at other schools if you're determined to be headed to bschool in the fall (just as an insurance policy).

This is a glass-half-full situation - but you're also in a bit of limbo for many months. Congrats that your app is still alive at HBS!!

I think we're more wondering what it means that they called us 2+2 applicants when we're not, but I imagine the answer is clerical error. Deferred admission, here I come!

Thanks!! I read your post and I'm definitely in that limbo of, "ok, so no rejection, but WHAT COULD I HAVE DONE BETTER IF I WAS THIS CLOSE" .. sigh. Keep calm and move on.

@dwal44 - oh got it - we read ganteymula's message wrong. Yeah, they clearly made a mistake with the 2+2 references.

It's good to see a number of you end up on the waitlist! And it's awesome that there's so much (relative) positivity here. People often get very bitter at this point and sometimes the forums go very negative so it's nice that all of you aren't doing that (at least, not publicly!).

This process is REALLY taxing - a complete rollercoaster. The best part of course (if you can call a rejection "best") is that you have plenty of time to regroup and rebound for some Round 2 apps. And this process has probably helped you make the next ones even stronger.

Good luck to all of you!!! There's a lot of ups and downs but the ones who are motivated, as you clearly are, will find a home in a good bschool in the end. :-)

I've decided not to check my email until I get home tonight, and to put it lightly this thread is making me BEYOND nervous. I am less than optimistic about my chances. If you haven't shared yet, i'm sure rest of the community would appreciate seeing the profiles associated with our eventual results. Mine is below.

Was wait-listed as well.

My employment situation (which was solid before) has changed significantly (for the better) within the weeks since submitting my application. Any advice on sending an updated resume and short snippit (2-3 sentences) to HBS as another item to consider? I don't want to be that annoying candidate, but the information might be relevant in their decision making process.

Also, is it certain that all wait-listed applicants will be pushed to Round 2 and re-evaluated then? Or is there a chance that a decision will be made for some between now and then?

For those that are curious, here is the language from the wait-list letter:

The MBA Admissions Board has reviewed your application materials and we will be deferring your application for further consideration. This is an indication that we remain interested in your candidacy, but would like to continue to review your application.

If during further review of your application we decide to extend an invitation to interview, we will notify you via email. Interviews are by invitation only - please do not contact our office with a request for an interview.

Dana Scalisi, Assistant Director, MBA Admissions, will be in touch soon to provide additional clarity on this process and a timeline. Please email Dana if you do not want to remain in consideration.

We will continue to give your application full and thoughtful review as our admissions season continues. We appreciate your interest in Harvard Business School and are grateful for your patience.
