Hi Everyone.
I have recently been admitted to HEC Paris and was wondering if anyone can help me decide whether to accept the offer or risk applying to Said / Cambridge in the next round (HEC's non refundable deposit period is in the next two weeks and even if I ask for an extension, I don't think I'll get the results from SAID / Cambridge for atleast 4-6 weeks.
Profile wise, I'm an Indian (early 30s, 730 GMAT, 7+ years work experience as a buy side investment analyst in the largest global asset management funds, good career progression till date, 1+ year international work experience at London / New York). Post MBA, I am looking to move from my current investing profile to more transactional PE / VC or Management consulting roles.
I haven't applied to any US schools (Visa issues / 2 year programmes). Apart from HEC, I had applied to LBS and INSEAD which didn't work out. So the option I have now is either to choose HEC's offer or to apply to SAID / Cambridge and hope one of them works out.
The reason I'm confused is because after speaking to HEC students, I think it is a great school but is a little weak in the kind of roles i'm after and most of these roles are outside of France (London / Middle East) where HEC's reputation is the strongest.
From what I understand, even Oxford / Cambridge are more generalist schools (compared to LBS or INSEAD which are know for sending a good chunk of the batch to Private Equity / Management Consulting). Would have been an easier decision with INSEAD or LBS but water under the bridge now. Any help / suggestions on the predicament are welcome.
From my end, pros and cons :
HEC Pros / Cons:Great Reputation in France but not too known in the UK or US
Better ranked in most surveys than the other two
16 month duration - gives a couple of internship opportunities and also better in terms of getting out of the covid related economic weakness
Slightly cheaper
Not know for PE / VC / MBB roles (I think very few people per batch)
Offer in hand (Bird in the hand better than two in the bush? )
SAID / Judge:In the UK where there are more PE / VC / MBB opportunities
1 year duration so faster paced / less internship opportunities
Lower ranked than HEC in most surveys
Not necessary that I'll get through in either if I apply.
Better brand recognition even outside of the UK
