3 miles = 15/5 miles total
first 1/5 mile, cost = $1
after the first 1/5 miles, cost = $0.2, number of 1/5th miles left = 15-1 = 14, hence cost = $0.2*14 = $2.8
Total = $ 3.8
Made a silly error initially and divided 2.8$ by 5.

In a 3 mile ride, the cost of 1st 0.2 mile is $1.
Remaining is 2.8 miles. No of 0.2 miles in 2.8 miles is 14 and each of these costs 0.2$. So total is 1+ 14*0.2 = $3.8.
Hence D.
